Whom had a successful installment?

I had a successful installment and I am very happy, yes even with another installer returning to complete the internet access.

Call back DirecTV and get them to send out a more experience tech.  Obviously they missed something.

My install went well without Directv present. I did my own install very easy. Once you understand how it works it's pretty easy.

jimtew,

You've posted several comments but none that would allow diagnosing your problem.  As a wild guess, I'd guess they set the Internet/router connection up wrong.  As a test, unplug the Cat5 cable that connects any of the Directv boxes to your router then reset (red button inside card door) the problem DVR or receiver.  If that works, post back and we can give you the correct way to connect to your router.

This is simply useless.  Can't you imagine that receivers have been reset over and over?  And CAT5 connected and disconnected?  NO CAT5 cable connects any DirecTV boxes to my router---that is not the way DECA is set up.   My router has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE DECA NETWORK CONNECTION---it only provides Internet access.

When you haven't a clue what you are talking about simply stringing a bunch of words together is not helpful.  Heaven help all of us if you actually work for DirecTV.  You do not have a clue and are wasting ecerone's time.

I forgot: the router also provides "network services"  but that is an issue for another day.

jimtew,  Goodness,  why so angry?  You came here and posted in a help forum so one might assume you wanted help.  And no, I don't work for Directv nor does anyone else in the Forums.  I was simply trying to help but I'll leave you to work out your own problems.

" unplug the Cat5 cable that connects any of the Directv boxes to your router "

Because this line indicates that you do not know what you are talking about regarding a SWM/DECA install!   Therefore, you are not "helping" anyone.

Golly, you are quite the taskmaster.  I'm fairly up to date on how a DECA install should go but we're getting posts from a lot of installers and customers who do not and do in fact connect a Cat5 cable to an open port and cause all sorts of problems.  If you'll take a moment and reread all of the words in my original post, I said the following as a preamble:

"As a wild guess, I'd guess they set the Internet/router connection up wrong"

In your case my wild guess was not correct.  Kindly disregard my wild guess.  You might consider being a bit more polite though because others may not be as tolerant as I am and might see your response as a bit harsh.

PRIOR to DECA I did have a CAT5 cable attached (through a switch on one DVR and through a Linksys wireless adapter on a second DVR) to my router to provide VOD/PPV access only.  When the BETA came  out I set it up but found the quality somewhat degraded and as such not really worth the trouble. With DECA/SWM I now have a wireless adapter I don't need.

As far as "Network Services"  I'm not sure what it would bring me that I don't already have. At one time I had Twonky set up to stream stuff from my MacBook directly to my Samsung TV.  While I have a Draft N router (Dlink dir-655) I unfortunately have to set it up for a mixed signal---G and N---so that the G only devices in the family (iPhones, company laptops, etc.) can connect. We tried Draft N USB adapters but they were more trouble than they were worth and then there are still the iPhones. It was fun to play with (TwonkyMedia) but just as easy to carry the laptop to the TV and use the USB/HDMI interface and the quality was better.

The biggest drawback to the DECA whole house system appears to be the delay in a remote signal actually working and the aforementioned packet lockup.

The new Hr24-500 added as part of the MRV (replacing an older non-HD sony DVR) can't seem to move a signal from the upstairs guest bedroom to the H24-100 (also new) in the kitchen without freezing up---"pausing"----anywhere from once every two minutes to once ever five minutes.

This seems to be the only "connection" that can't keep up.  the older DVRs in the Family Room and Master Bedroom seem to be exchanging data just fine.

So, considering the complaining I'm getting from my wife, I'm sorry to say that the install is still a fail.
