Do I need the box ( when it works fine without it)

New service as of 5/23/22 ( ship date) and we received 2 C71K boxes. I guess we are being charged 10 dollars apiece for these on an installment plan. Our service works fine without these hooked up. Can we send them back and lose this extra charge per month for these devices? Or is there a benefit to having them as a back up or something.  My preference is to send them back and not be charged for them.

@kinman123 you posted in the DIRECTV satellite forum but mention the model C71K box, which is indeed a DIRECTV STREAM Osprey Box. What do you mean by ‘our service works fine without them hooked up?’ Are you using a different streaming device for DIRECTV STREAM or a smart TV? If so, I would still keep the boxes anyway because they have faster speeds and response time, a better remote, and are more optimized for streaming Live TV. You already got into receiving them and paying for them, why not keep them?

Keep the boxes. They are much better than the apps....plus you get a remote with a voice button--and can also use numbers to change channels. Remote also has buttons for guide, record, previous channel, dvr list. You can't access them that fast with the apps. Plus ff/rewind works much better with their box. You could always return those boxes and get the 49.99 refurbished ones. Dtv sells those also and they come with a 1 yr warranty.
