Early termination fee waived

Is there any way I can get the termination fee waived after 59 days? I only had a gap in coverage because I was out of the country caring for my ill mother. I just returned Saturday and upon my arrival tried to reinstate my account and now I have to pay the high early termination fee but I'm not terminating....I will resign a new contract if I must to avoid paying the fee, I just don't see how I should be forced to pay an early termination fee when I'm trying to remain a customer and keep my service 😞
