No thanks on the high pressure sales pitch
When I am treated as badly as I just was by AT&T, I have to speak up. My Uverse contract just expired, resulting in my discounts expiring. Obviously, I don’t want to pay $200 a month for cable/internet/phone so I shopped around. I told a competitor what I wanted and got a professional quote for a much cheaper monthly charge. The competitor didn’t try to sell me more channels than I wanted or anything extra. Then I went back to AT&T and asked a simple question: Can you match the $99/month for 12 months and then $30 higher for the additional 12 months offer. Easy question. “Davies D” proceeded to try to sell me a $178/month plan with a free movie package for three months, additional channels and higher internet speed. I said over and over that I just wanted a basic plan with HBO and expanded ESPN (in other words, what we have now) and could he please find out if AT&T would match Cox’s offer. I never got an answer, just repeated sales pitches for MORE MOVIES, FASTER INTERNET, MORE CHANNELS! At one point, he tried to tell me how much happier my family would be with the additional movie channels. Now that’s ridiculous. Not only will AT&T not answer my question but now AT&T wants to decide how much television my family watches? Is AT&T going to attend parent-teacher conferences and send my kids to college?

No good customer service person wants to tell a customer "No". Explaining a promotions you ARE eligible for and explaining the value of those promotions is considered "better customer service".
Sometimes you have to read between the lines.
