U-verse Availability

I would like to upgrade my internet speed, currently on DSL. We constantly see Uverse offers but when we check it is not available. Subdivisions around us are able to get it. We live in an old BellSouth territory and in a fairly new subdivision. I think we have fiber to the curb. Can anyone help me understand why a faster service isn't available?

You might have old Bell South fiber that was unuable by ATT as it was in a ring feeding all houses like a cable system, not the way ATT does it.  Eventually they will be ending that old ADSL Internet.

ATT has provided only 40-45% of ATT users w/UverseTV and internet (45-3M) on VDSL2, 30-35% users w/ ADSL2+ internet (18M-768K) for those beyond VDSL2 range and 20-25% of users will get no DSL of any kind.

ATT is using ATT wireless 4G LTE to provide internet services for those w/no wireline service available.

Thanks for the reply. My maximum download speed that I can seem to get is 2.33 Mbs. Does that mean that I am ADSL2? And that ATT is getting rid of that service? Will ATT then only offer Uverse (which can't be delivered over BellSouth fiber) or some kind of wireless internet?

Thanks for helping me understand. Daughter is a computational chemist and complains mightily when she visits and tries to use the computer. I hate, hate, hate the idea of doing business with Comcast but I think ATT may be forcing me to go.

What speed are you paying for now?   ADSL 2 is the Uverse option of Internet, ADSL old ATT DSL. Smiley Surprised

I must have the old DSL. My bill shows DSL Xtreme @ $44 a month. I think that is way too high to be paying for 2.33 Mbs. And is too slow at any price. I have looked on line and my subdivision is not eligible for a faster service from ATT.

I pay $30 a month to ATT for unlimited data on iPhone 6 LTE. I think that it is operating at a speed much faster than DSL. It would be nice to be able to hook my wireless router to the iPhone if that is the case. There has to be a way to get faster internet.
