I raised the issue again a week or two ago with the social media team and they agreed to look into it; again.

@JefferMC my understanding from what corporate office has told me is the Twitter team is actually contractors at&t hires and they aren't actually at&t employees. It's crazy that this issue is so widespread its email and physical mail on both uverse/at&t and directv letterhead (and when I don't even have and have never had any directv services). It really does seem cruel to set up a trap like this for consumers.
I know that the chat support is outsourced. Telephone support has been outsourced for a very long time. It wouldn't surprise me that the Twitter support is also outsourced. I've even heard that the "office of the president" is outsourced.
I didn't have a scan of the physical letter to provide to my contacts, so if you know where I can find one of them, I'd like it.

Here's a physical one they mailed me from last year. I've received them on other occasions. I didn't even realize it said directv when I read it, since it has an at&t logo at the top of the letterhead, and again I've never had directv or directv stream or anything. I'm not 100% sure but I believe I've also received them not referencing directv equipment and referencing u-verse directly, but I can't find one of those in my files, I probably threw it out in anger and annoyance.
Thanks. I've passed on the link to the AT&T folks who wanted to see it.

Since you are representing the other company, you need to work with them on a consistent process. Passing the issue to the other company is just bad service. If you really think your comments are good, please let your manager know what you said.
Those with the "employee" tag are posting on their personal time (off-the-clock). They are free to share their perspective and opinion like the rest of us. The tag simply represents they 'should' have more current internal knowledge. But they are not representing the company as again this is on their own time.
As such they don't have to tell their manager squat what they do on their own time even if it discusses AT&T/DirecTV.

I would say that while my thoughts is technically correct, since AT&T is pretty much still running every server, network link, etc. for the U-verse TV product and is still operating this community for U-verse TV that the technicality may serve to inform how this crappy behavior is possible without deliberate maleficence, it doesn't excuse it. The payments are still going to AT&T and the bill if you don't return that equipment will come from AT&T.

The question of who is "at&t" and who owns what is incredibly complex.
It terms of ownership at&t bought directv then they packaged it with uverse and directv stream (formerly at&t tv and 10 other meaningless names) into their "premium tv services division " and "sold" it to a new company managed by TPG capital. Even though at&t retains 70% ownership they'll Swear that any bad management decisions are TPG's fault. In terms of branding even at&t employees aren't entirely sure who technically is in charge of who. Especially when more and more employees become "contractors".(again to avoid liability and taxes).
And then to complicate matters even further tv content was packaged and "sold" to become Warner Brothers-discovery.
But at the end of the day ita all bs at&t did to just magically be able to take massive losses on paper to avoid paying taxes and yet still have c suite members meet their target numbers through accounting magic so they could all get massive bonuses even though they made terrible decisions.
For instance they can claim all the6 want that directv and uverse tv are an entirely seperate company ...but when you cal tech support or customer support it's the same phone number. When the technician comes to your house he does your internet and your uverse tv. Does he get paid by 2 seperate companies? Is he billing them separately? Of course not.
It's hard to imagine writing a business plan this ridiculous and getting funding if you were a new company instead of getting laughed out every meeting.

AT&T is still sending the email to recycle. I guess they still have no clue or they just want want to take your money.
