Wireless Receiver "Jitters" Every 10 Seconds

I had U-Verse installed yesterday. I'm having a problem with the wireless receiver having get a slight "jitter" or have a "flash" every 10 seconds or so. It's kind of hard to describe but it's most obvious when static images are on screen such as station logos or score bugs. It happens on the entire interface (menu, guide, etc) and not just the TV feed so it's not a signal strength problem. I've tried using both HDMI and component with no change.

My father had U-Verse installed today and I went over to check it out, and sure enough, his wireless receiver has the exact same issue. it doesn't affect the wired DVR.

Is this a known issue that can be fixed with a firmware update or this "normal?" I need the wireless for where my TV is placed.

Yes, between two family members and a friend of mine, all 7 boxes do this. It's not a line or gateway problem. I completely powered down and disconnected everything except the box (gateway, DVR) and powered the box on, standalone, and the problem even happens during the boot sequence on the "Rethink Possible" splash screen. This model simply cannot display 1080i without jittering. I posted on another forum and found out that there are three different wireless receivers, but according to customer support, the customer cannot choose a different one than what is offered in your area. Essentially, we have no choice but to take it or leave it.

Big C Style - Kudos to you for your analysis. I find the observation on the splash screen interesting. It leads me to wonder if you see the same jitter when connected component. Also, when connected composite. Not that you would leave it in SD.

Also, you say it is a problem with 1080i. Have you tried 720p? I suppose when connected HDMI the HDMI will control it, so, you may need to use component cables for 720p.

Yes, earlier in the thread I said that HDMI or component makes no difference. The only way to resolve this is do display video in 720p, which to me is no solution.

Big C Style - I agree 720p is not a solution, but I think it is very valuable to show an att tech. I also, agree it indicates it is the STB, not the feed line.

This is so distracting when watching anything that has static information on screen. News graphics, weather reports, sports score bugs, etc. I just can't believe that they're not willing to own up to this and provide a different model receiver. Unless there's a technical reason that a certain model is incompatible in a certain location that I'm unaware of.

OK the newer model RG came in the mail today (HGV-3801) and I've installed it. The wireless STB that has been giving me all these issues in my house is still jumping, every 10 seconds or so. This new RG didn't help at all and all I'm connecting to the TV is composite cables from it, not even HiDef.

This is either that model wireless STB box issue or something to do with wiring/signal in the house. Very frustrating.

To answer your question, I am not in a crowded environment either. This is the only device in my household that is 5 Ghz, and I tried it both wireless with the WAP, and with the Ethernet cable directly to it and it still happens. Nothing else is wireless in my home at all, so no 2.4 Ghz anyway.

This is in a home with the provided WAP about 10 ft away from the device direct.

While I appreciate everyone's input on this, I think that after looking at all of the posts in this thread, it's clear that this is a hardware problem with the ISB 7005 and has nothing to do with the signal quality, gateway, connection type, TV, etc.

Here's what's happened so far:
- personally seen 7 boxes do this across 4 houses
- swapped boxes & gateway - problem remains
- changed connection type - problem remains
- hardwired box and removed WAP - problem remains
- disconnected gateway and eliminated ALL wireless activity. Connected to TV with NO signal - problem remains
- It can be taken to an empty field in the middle of nowhere and the problem will still happen.

I suspect the problem here is that cheap capacitors are used on the main board of these things and it can't properly output 1080i without stuttering. Obviously this can't be fixed in the field.

Well I bit the bullet and had AT&T come out to my house and install a wired STB through Coax. The jumping is gone. I'm done troubleshooting this problem. It was 2 guys and they also said that they've never seen this "jumping" issue before. They didn't want to troubleshoot it at all. Save us all headaches. They were very nice and when I told them I wanted a wired one there was no issue.

Well, boys, I got my wifi box in July, and it does the same thing.  I'm just glad I found this thread and now know it's not my new TV.  I guess hardwiring is the only solution at this point.  What a waste of good technology.

Here we are 15 months after my initial post and this problem is still not resolved. I just added another wireless receiver to another room in my house, and the same problem happens on that one too.

I know that AT&T is ignoring the problem and I don't expect a resolution at this point, just wanted to share.

I don't mean to be rude but have you read all the replies in the thread? This has all been addressed already including hardwiring, running without the WAP, etc.

Once again this has absolutely nothing to do with anything pertaining to wireless or content being viewed. ALL video output from the device, including menus, guide, "Rethink Possible" splash screen, etc exhibit this behavior. It will do it in a vacuum.

Hello everyone,

After recently getting a New 4k TV then switching my Uverse AV feed from RCA output to HDMI, I encountered the same Jittery issue with distracting dancing words and lines which is what lead me to this forum.

I already ruled out bad HDMI cords and TV, the same issue happens on my old tv as well.

Seems there has to be a logical fix to the issue since so many people have the same issue time and time again?

SOLUTION: Maybe this may help everyone since it seems to have resolved things on my end.

Go to your Uverse menu / select options / system options / TV screen resolution (HD/SD) -  from here it will allow you to adjust the definition output from the Uverse Feed.  If standard definition is already selected, change to High Definition that your tv supports (either 720p or 1080i) and accept changes.   You should notice a much sharper image and no jitter!!!

Hope this saves someone else the headache.

A pretty major firmware update took place a week or so ago which modified system fonts, splash screens, etc and the problem is still happening.
