Gemini last channel viewed
I have DTVstream, 3 gemini units, all has been working well overall. Normally, I watch a channel on one unit/tv, turn it off and when I come back later, it turns on to the last station viewed on that unit. The last couple of days, if I watch a channel on one unit, turn it off and turn on a different unit, it turns on to the channel I was watching in another room and not the last channel I watched on the unit I am using now. Any ideas? Not the end of the world, but I specifically watch a particular channel on the bedroom unit when I am folding laundry, etc. in that room. The units in the living room and kitchen are varied in viewing.

I’m glad you got your issue resolved. My stream boxes are all Gemini, I presume your extreme solution will work. But why do I really want to or have to go through all that rigmarole, it’s like starting all over again with new units, doable, but a pain, and all because some software genius at DTV couldn’t program a decent update. THEY should come up with a quick software fix to resolve the issue. Thanks for the info, if I get desperate I may give it a try.

One would figure if they could cause this issue by sending an update, they could fix this issue by sending an update. I’m not hard resetting my Gemini’s and having to setup/sign in to everything and all my apps again.

janesca54 I totally agree, they broke it they should fix it. I programmed for 30 years and I fixed my mistakes if and when I made one, but I'm old school. I don't know if my solution will work on the Gemini but if it's the same symptom I would think it would. It took me about 5 minutes for each box. I felt it was worth that little bit of time until the next update instead of getting ticked off every time I turned on one of my boxes. FYI, my boxes had been fine since Feb 2023.

cwaffles, not sure about having to sign in to all your apps again. That would be a pain. You could call DTV tech support to see if you would have to. Hopefully you get someone with some knowledge, if not you could call back until you do like I did.

I find it funny that people with multiple devices are complaining...
My uncle just got a new single Gemini that I helped him hook up today, and nomatter what channel I leave it on, when I press "off" and then "on" again, it resets to 520 5StarMax.
For no apparent reason whatsoever.
This is quite stupid and annoying.

@Alice_Redhat I will try a full 30s reset of the unit and see if it will start acting normally...(like ANY other regular settop box for EVERYTHING ELSE EVER.)

No idea. I do not use the Gemini device, but all my other devices (Fire Sticks or Roku) almost always show the last channel watched, regardless which device being used.
For DirecTV Satellite, call 1-800-531-5000.
For DirecTV Stream, call 1-888-429-4023.

Hm. I've come to a conclusion with testing..
You apparently need to be on a channel greater than 45 seconds for the Gemini to register that as "the last channel watched"
Otherwise powering up will take whatever was being watched before. Just turns out that 5StarMax was Alphabetically sorted first, and what the device starts off with firstboot/after 30s resetting.
Still not sure why it wont control the tv power/volume via CEC... but oh well, the mystery is solved; "leave the tv on a channel more than 45 seconds" and it remembers that channel.

As mentioned previously this wasn’t an issue until one of the updates to the Gemini was pushed. If they broke it with an update they can fix it with an update.

@cwaffles exactly. Apparently they haven’t figured it out yet.

Sorry all, I had some personal issues to attend to and didn't have a chance to post an update (no pun intended).
My "fix" of a reset lasted maybe 2 days, then it was back to last channel watched not working. So it appears they have broken both the Osprey and Gemini with the update in October 2023. @mystica5555 I tried switching channels before I powered off the box I was watching. But I figured out on the Osprey box I have to watch a channel for like 30 minutes for it to register as last channel watched. Don't hold your breath that you have a solution, they'll probably break that too. @janesca54 if "they" are any good at programming, believe me, they CAN figure it out. Just not sure it's a priority.
I also NEVER got a call back, as promised, from a DTV program tech. Go figure.

DTV has broken the "last channel watched" over and over for several years. Just search the forum for it. They recently put out an update that appears to be their solution for constantly breaking their own functionality. It's called "Home". In settings > preferences is an option called "Start at Home". It was set to "on" by default so your set top box will start at the Home screen which appears to have the last most recently watched channels (8 of them). Most of the time when you turn on a box, it will still default to the last channel watched from another box (if you have more than one like I do).
This appears to be their lame attempt to appease us. I guess because they can't figure out how to "fix it" permanently. At least with this "feature" all you have to do is arrow over to the channel you want. It switches to that channel. You can press "OK" or just let it time out for the home screen to disappear. Fewer key strokes to get to the channel you last watched on that box. Ironically enough, I still occasionally have had a box actually be on the last channel watched on that box when I turn it on. Go figure!

It took me a few minutes to figure out what the heck they did. Just an over complicated update from some genius.

Ridiculous - each unit should operate independently. It’s bad enough battling Google Assist to get to what I want to watch.

Whether each end-point device should retain that state is a judgement call. Since from the start of the service, the devices could come and go (and initially there could only be a couple at once) they made the decision to put all persistent state into the account (which is shared) rather than the device. They may at one point have revisited that choice for the Osprey/Gemini devices - I don’t know - but I’m pretty sure they haven’t for other devices.
There are a lot of UI/UX choices they made early on that may no longer be great (if they even were at the beginning) but I haven’t seen a functional (as opposed to “decorative”) change in a long time. One can hope.
