Why is closed captioning missing on all CBS dvr recordings?
For 3 weeks closed captioning has been missing on all CBS dvr recordings and only CBS. All dvr recordings from other channels show closed captioning. Closed captioning works on live CBS. I deleted all CBS series recordings and set them back up. Still no closed captioning. And it's the same on 2 TVs and a tablet. My Directtv Stream preference setting is for closed captioning to always be on.

CraigPSU,
I just had a call from a gentleman with the CBS local affiliate. He told me I was the third call of the day with the same problem. He had some coworkers with Directtv test their systems and they reported the same issue. He has reached out to Directtv and CBS. He said he would report back to me.

Susan,
Wow!!! Great news! With the problem spreading there is hope. Thank you for the call and letting me know. Since I am in the Charlotte area we know it is affecting multiple CBS affiliates. I know when I attempted to record local programs those also didn't have closed captions recorded. You are getting better results than I did!

Craig,
I don't know who did what but I now have cc on CBS dvr recordings. I'll let you know if it doesn't last. I have not heard from Lee at the local affiliate so I don't know if he was able to help.
When I first played the recording, there was no cc. I went to the dvr cc/audio setting and pressed English (which I have done many, many times before) but this time it worked. I shouldn't have to do this since Directtv is set for cc to always be on.
Let me know if you are able to get your cc fixed. If you call your local affiliate, check their website. Tampa even has a telephone number for cc problems.
Hope this helps.

Susan,
No luck here. I did check my stations website earlier. There was a link for contact info but when I clicked on it got a page not found.
When I click on the CC Settings I have None Available, not English to check still.
I will find a number for my station tomorrow to call. If you get a call and they did fix the problem see if they would be willing for me to give the Charlotte affiliate their contact info for assistance. I will check my closed captions again tomorrow morning before I attempt to call my station.
Thanks,
Craig

Craig,
Hmmm, if you don't have a dvr menu setting for cc, maybe that's the difference between you having the box and me the app.
If I hear from Tampa, I will definitely ask if they can be of assistance to Charlotte.

Susan,
Still no luck here. On all my channels I do have English for CC except for CBS. This is true whether I use the Direct TV box or the app on either Roku or Amazon Firestick or use a browser on Windows.
I did find an email link for my local station with two different people so sent them both a query on what we have found and that it also happened in Tampa. Sent it this morning and haven't had a reply yet. Hopefully yours is still working.

Hi, Craig,
Let me see if I understand how our two systems work. If you are watching a CBS dvr recording and you pause it, do you then have the line "Info", "cc/audio" and "live" at the bottom? And if you click on cc/audio, do you have "Off" and "English" underneath it and "closed captioning settings"? If not, are systems aren't the same which is weird. I am accessing Directtv through a Fire stick.
I did not hear from the Tampa office today. I will call tomorrow.
I still have cc and hope you will soon. Please keep me updated.

Susan,
While using my firestick when I am playing a recording that is not CBS then it is exactly as you describe. When I am playing a recording from CBS then after I select CC/Audio I only have Off and no English option below it. That tells me that the recording has no CC as part of the recording.
When I am using my DirecTV box instead of English as an option being listed I have None Available listed for the CBS recording.
I do think when all this started I did have English still as an option for CBS even though it didn't work but now it just doesn't appear anymore.

At the moment there is no confirmed outage from our end about this topic, nonetheless, most common closed caption errors originate from programming sources and program guide information vendors. If programming received from the national networks includes captioning errors, local affiliated stations will pass those errors along as part of the broadcast feed they deliver to DIRECTV STREAM.
In some cases, the TV device or receiver may cause good closed caption info to be missing or garbled. In these cases, it’s recommended to restart the device or to verify that the local settings are correct.
Let us know if this step has already been taken, and please keep us updated.

Craig,
Looks like we have the same system. I never lost the word English; it just didn't work.
Good news on the response from your local affiliate. Let me know when your system is fixed.

Hi Susan,
Finally working! I received a phone call from my CBS station and we talked for a while over how CC works and potential issues. I told him about your issue in Tampa. He ended up calling Lee there and was told that they contacted Direct TV and then the problem was resolved but no word on how. So my contact here (Paul) contacted them and after a few days my problem was resolved. I sent an email thanking them and asked if they knew what resolved the problem but never received a reply.
Also I posted a reply to another entry on here that turned out to be in Albany, NY. In that case the issue just resolved on its own without the poster contacted anyone outside this forum. All of us had the issue with only our local CBS station. Hope it stays resolved and that no one else has to deal with this.

Craig,
I have been wondering what happened and am glad your CBS cc is now working correctly. I guess we'll never know if this was a Directtv or a CBS problem.
If this does happen to someone else, I hope this very long thread will help them get the issue resolved.
