3D and Vizio - It doesn't work

I am unable to watch any 3D programming on the Vizio 3D 42" TV.  Currently, I have the TV connected straight to my HD DVR (H21-700) through HDMI . I also made sure that 720p,1080i and 1080p resolutions are enabled on the receiver.

When I try to watch any program, I get the message the resolution is not supported - I got the same message for 720p and 1080p24 3D programs. The interesting thing is when I play the program, my TV does say that I am enabling 3D content and then the receiver gives me the message.

I called DirecTV last night and was told Vizio is not supported. And this afternoon when I called Vizio, I was told DirecTV needs to upgrade the receiver. Any inputs?

Here is the chat with Vizio Support:

Me: my satellite receiver always gives an error stating that 1080p24 resolutions is not supported. I get the same message for 720p resoltuions

Vizio: Direct tv has something in there box that needs to be changed for you to be able to watch 3D

Me: I did talk to them last night and I was told Vizio doesn't support the resolutions
Vizio: There is a chip inside your box that needs to be updated.

Vizio: All tv companies know of this.

But you have to understand that in order to know whether your TV will work before you purchase.  3D is still on the leading edge like HD was in 2000.  So, some redimentary understanding of how 3D works is required right now.  In a few years it won't be.

3D works on DirecTV (not on Blu-Ray) by using half of the picture for your left eye and the other half for the right eye.  When the TV or projector receives a DirecTV 3D signal, it knows that the left half of the picture is for the left eye and the right half of the picture is for the right eye.  The TV or projector then takes half an image, converts it to a full image and displays it while telling the 3D glasses which eye to "open".  3D glasses that are called shutter glasses work by blocking the image to one eye and allowing light to only enter one eye.  This happens very fast and in sync with the TV/projector which allows the brain to believe it is seeing a continuous image in both eyes.

Dividing the left part of the image for the left eye and the right side of the image for the right eye is called "Side by Side".  Please again keep in mind that the image is full screen when you see it because the TV/projector horizontally stretches the image to fill the picture.

I am a new Visio 3D television owner. I just purchased the Visio M3D460SR LED LCD 3D TV and I cannot get Direct TV 3D channels. I contacted Direct TV and they sent me to there 3D televisions compatibility list and this TV is not supported. My question is, does anyone know when this TV will be compatible. The receiver I have is the H21 and according to Direct TV it is 3D compatible.  I also contacted Visio and they told me that they are unable to know when Direct TV will upgrade their list.

From http://www.amazon.com/VIZIO-M3D460SR-46-Inch-1080p-Black/product-reviews/B0056YN8NQ/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1

After installation of DirecTV (Ultimate Package) on 01-14-2012, I got a great 3D picture on 4 3D channels: n3D, CINE3D, ESPN3D, and 3Net. After I select one of those 3D channels via the DirecTV remote, I press the 3D button (bottom left on Vizio remote), select 3D, then select SBS...and get a perfect 3D picture.

Is that what you tried? If so, do you have any other device between the H21 and the TV? If so, try a direct HDMI connection at least temporarily to check.
