Application seems to work but no video

I'm running Directv2PC on a 2.4Ghz Athlon X2, 1 GB mem, Windows XP w/SP3, 160 GB hard drive, Radeon HD 4670 video card with 1GB memory and latest drivers, on a house gigabit network behind a CenturyLink/Qwest DSN modem/router.  The computer is connected to a Samsung plasma HDTV via a VGA cable.  I've installed the application 2 times.  The second install was done with tech support assistance.  The install works fiine.  It verified I could use protected content and downloaded the codecs.  The application opens fine and will show the programming on my DVR.  I can select a show and hit the play button.  I then get a black background with the application's status bars and icons showing.  The progress bar correctly shows the length of the show but under the progress bar the current progress bubble shows 0:00 and is all the way to the right.  No matter how long I let it run, the video never appears.  However, I know something is going on with the application because both of my cpu cores heat up by 15+ degrees C.  At this point, tech support gave up as the DVR and application download/install are normal.  When I ran the advisor, I got a red light on the video card and driver.  I believe this is because my card and drivers are much newer than those it lists as being the minimum required.

I'm very frustrated after spending the money to get this work.  I have no clue what the problem is.  The WIndows firewall has Directv2PC listed as an exclusion.  My network hardware is working fine.  My video card should be more than sufficient as is my computer.  Oh, one other thing.  If I click on STOP, the application works fine and takes me back to the program information screen.  But if I click on FAST FORWARD or REWIND, I immediately get a Windows application error saying that Directv2PC has caused an error and needs to be shut down.  Soooo, there may be some other problem.  Your help is greatly appreciated.

Ok, I tried a HDMI cable but I still get no video.  Are there any known software or hardware conflicts that could result in not getting any video?  Again, I believe the application is trying to work as it heats up my processors but I see no video and the progress bar shows the white time bubble all the way to the right with "0:00."  Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.  I could've just spend the money for the whole house DVR solution but since I don't need to do this much and wanted to update my downstairs PC anyway, I thought this Directv2PC was the answer.  Too bad they won't help you any more than to ensure it got installed right.

For starters, with the program shut down, temporarily disable your firewall and do a red button (inside card door) reset of the DVR.  Then go through each page of the help menu and you'll see a few tips.  I'd guess you have something running on your computer that the program can't tolerate.

I did the reset.  My ADSL modem/firewall (Actiontec M1000) is only set on NAT.  The firewall is disabled.  Directv2PC is on the PC Window's Firewall exception list.

I had Directv2pc working fine until I had an unrelated problem with my video card (an nVidia 9800 GT). I switched to an ATI Radeon 4870 (similar to your video card) and started getting the error, "Directv2pc has stopped working". The 4870 never worked despite numerous reinstalls and trying suggestions from other threads. When I saw your video card (4670) I got suspicious, so I reverted back to the 9800 GT and Directv2pc works again with no problems. So, my next test is to see if reverting to an older ATI Radeon 4870 driver works with Directv2pc. I hate over-engineered things and this thing is the epitome of one. Directv needs to scrap cyberlink's anti-theft system.

I'm running a Radeon 4850 with a 8.902.0.0 driver and nary a problem.  I'll totally agree that this software is a pain but for whatever reason I've had good luck running it on a few different computers.

Tigerray, sorry to hear you are suffering from a similar problem.  I feel better that I'm not alone though.  I've tried a variety of drivers but no change.  I didn't want to go too far back to pick a driver in case that causes even more problems.  I'm really disappointed in Directv's hands off tech support on this.  They should at least be consolidating these trouble reports and doing some in house testing to produce a more updated and helpful FAQ page.  I just don't have a clue where I need to proceed with this now.  I have to believe the problem has something to do with the video card.  Wish there was just some box to uncheck or registry hack to get it working.  Does Cyberlink support this product?
