Direct TV and their continuing "dropped channel negotiations"

This is the second time in two months that Direct TV has dropped a channel because they are "Negotiating". We pay their bills  and the CEO gets their money. They should be negotiating before the contract expire and not put the VIEWERS who pay their bills in the middle. I for one am tired of this crap. I have been with Direct TV for over 20 years and it looks like they are not going to fix this problem but hold their patrons hostage. There are other services available and on line streaming is becoming one to look at. DIRECT TV  seems to be only concerned about what goes directly into the CEO's pocket. On the top of this page they ask you to write your congressman and senators. Again they want you to do the work for them. By the way Senators estimate that for every letter they get there are a hundred more thinking the same thing but never take the time to give their opinions.

After all the money that we pay to have Directv service, there is no reason not to be able to negotiate a contract with Cox Media Group.   There are a lot of people (live in the country) that only have access to  satellite tv.  We should not suffer from your petty dispute.   hopefully during this time Directv gives their customers a discount since we do not receive all channels.

Your ad on your Directv Official Site says "Watch The Big Game Live on DIRECTV"  is a LIE!!!

The contract is honored. Nothing in it says any channel is guaranteed. Says that programming/channels are subject to change at anytime. Just like an Enlistment contract, it matters not what you believe you are signing but what is actually in the terms.

For some reason, I haven't been receiving the west coast ABC feed, only the local Yuma, AZ station (CH11).  As of yesterday, February 2, I have not been receiving their feed.  It appears to be a problem with COX Cable, I think some sort of contract issue.  So now that I am not getting the local ABC feed, can I now receive the west coast ABC feed (CH397)?

Last year Congress/FCC changed the rules restricting greatly who can get the "national feeds," this action was triggered specifically for customers who are in range of an affiliate (i.e. the affiliates want your eyeballs on their commercials).  Just because the affiliate has pulled their feed from DIRECTV doesn't entitle you to the national feed.  I think it should, but it doesn't.

Yeah, I agree with you.  I guess that is the end of "Jeopardy" for us.   Here's another one for you.  When the FCC changed the rules, we STILL receive the west coast feed for CBS and NBC, CH391 + 393 but not ABC CH397.  I am reluctant to tell DTV fearing they might yank them.  Oh wait, I just told them. :-)

Local (yours, not the national feed) should only be gone temporarily. Just standard negotiations.

National feed was lost because the locals lobbied Congress to prevent the STELAR Act from renewing, and they won. So DirecTV is not allowed to provide those channels like they used to. Local pulling the feed away to negotiate doesn't change that you are still in that local's physical DMA.

We’re disappointed to see Cox Media Group has put you into the middle of a private business matter. We want to keep your local stations, but Cox has exclusive control over that programming. We appreciate your patience while we continue to work with them.

My ABC affiliate (WFTV) and their associated independent station (WRDQ) where removed from my lineup over a carriage dispute that should have settled last week. Instead, AT&T dug in and pulled the stations. This is nothing more than corporate greed, probably on both sides but Cox does own the media!

AT&T/DirectTV, do you not see the YouTubeTV ads you get every time you open YouTube? It's half the price of my DirectTV service and includes my local ABC affiliate! Instead of speeding up the demise of satellite TV as users switch to streaming services, maybe AT&T should try  competing with them by offering cheaper packages with fewer channels instead of 150 channels of junk nobody watches.

AT&T did NOT "dig in and pull the station". The channel owner, as they own the broadcast rights, did so in order to leverage higher rates.

Hope the facts help clear this up for you. The channel(s) will be back when the channel owner allows it. So how much more do you want the channel to charge to get it back immediately?

I agree. The prices Directv charges just keep rising. Thankfully my last year with them. I would rather stream tv and save money!

Please do what is necessary to restore our local programming on WFTV channel 9 (1009) and WRDQ channel 27 (1027) and make them available again to your loyal subscribers. For the amount of money we spend each month we expect better service than this. Since I have been with AT&T Uverse/DirectTV customer for over 20 years even though I could have received cheaper service provided within my local market. you have taken away our favorite local channels most of us will have no choice but to switch to another provider who carries them. I understand business is business but if you lose business what sense does that make???

I agree.  Please make sure your channel owner hears from you, because your station owner is the one empowered to let you see their station.

If they say different, then, well, they're prevaricating.

I agree. Contract dispute needs to be rectified immediately. We pay for service that is not being delivered. Your contract issue with the station owner puts you yo not fulfilling your contract with me.

No, you have no contract to get this particular station from AT&T.  I'm sorry if you thought so.  And while you may be paying a local channel fee already, next year it will go up, and the sooner this ends, probably the higher that number will be.  This is the station's play, their bargaining chip, but it isn't without risk.  Their advertisers are losing eyeballs.

So as of yesterday, ATT U-verse no longer broadcasts ABC?? A major network that they stopped broadcasting because someone at ATT screwed up royally? That is pure crap and is likely the last straw, the “advantages” of U-verse are waning quickly. Thankfully, Spectrum still carries ABC and is available here in Melbourne FL.

AT&T doesn't want to pay the higher prices demanded by whoever owns your local ABC affiliate. Call the station and demand they lower their prices for something you can get for free with an antenna.

Spectrum, or any other provider, has to go through these same negotiations. From time to time, channel owners don't give Spectrum (or any other provider) permission to carry their channels. As an example, Dish Network is currently in a stalemate with several different owners. They haven't had HBO since at least 2019.

Because ATT/UVerse is fighting with Cox Media now for more money, I have to suffer and my channel is now gone. This is the third (3) time in 3 months this has happened. I was promised a $20 discount but it still has not shown up on my bill. Hey why not give me what I pay for? How about that?

My husband was bed ridden from CANCER and watched those channels. Guess what??? He died on Christmas and could not watch his favorite shows until someone decided to pull up their (edited per community guidelines) and negotiate and get my channels back.

Really, how much money do you need? Why not give the consumer what they pay for and what you promised?

PUT MY FREAKING CHANNELS BACK!!! THE ONES I PAY FOR. I'M NOT ASKING FOR SOMETHING FOR FREE! I WANT WHAT I PAY FOR. AND MY $20 CREDIT FROM 3 MONTHS AGO. AND YOU CAN GIVE ME ANOTHER FREAKING CREDIT FOR THIS (Edited per community guidelines) AS WELL!!!

Seriously upset that as a company that I pay $140.00 per month for mediocre service has decided to wage a payment dispute with the network that has the super bowl, Gail and judge Judy to name a few.
resolve this issue before Friday or I will cancel my account forever. (Edited per community guidelines)

I don't know why these channels are blocked, but my older husband is totally upset and anxious. We watch the national nightly news on this channel, in addition to ET, and Inside Addition. It is also important to us for daily local news. I don't know what the point is, but I will have to come up with some alternative. We pay a lot of money for DirectTV and AT&T, and I just don't see it. Not to mention the sports shows. We're not happy campers at all!!!

Most likely your local channel removed their feed because DTV will not pay them they want to renew the contract so it will be back eventually.  All providers go though this changing providers is a short term fix.

Of all times for this negotiating or non-negotiating to go on, with the Super Bowl coming up this weekend.  Couldn't have picked a better time, right!  And, I agree, we have lost channels recently too, due to non-negotiations.  I have had Direct TV for about 20 years as well, and am getting tired of losing channels all the time, especially a local channel.  Can you intervene a local channel to replace WHIO at least so we can watch the super bowl?  Thank you.

susanbh - WHIO has the rights to the programming in your area and Directv is not allowed by the FCC to replace WHIO with another channel showing the Super Bowl. You might be cynical and say this is perfect timing for WHIO/Cox to pull the channel from Directv to apply maximum pressure.

My contract included NBC in its lineup, it is no longer available. I am holding up my end of the contract and I believe ATT broke their side. Can’t get support. Xfinity had immediate response to my problems. Not such a bargain after all. Should have done my research and not fell prey to their highly trained salespeople. Lessons learned. So I am stuck in a contract I can not get out of. Again, I kept up on my agreement, I guess it doesn’t apply to a company like ATT.

I don’t care who is threatening who, with what contract and who’s fault it is— I pay ALOT of money each month for my package and have been with Directv for many, many years and feel the amount of money I pay I should not lose ANY of my channels, regardless!!!! This is just ridiculous to lose a main channel like CBS! Especially days before the Super Bowl is going to air on that station.  With every horrible thing going on in the world, this is the one thing that my family is able to actually stay home and follow all the social distancing rules and look forward to, and now we can’t watch it on our TV!! You’ve got to be kidding, this is totally UNACCEPTABLE!!!! This is only forcing people to gather and go to other places where they can see the game, exactly what they are saying we shouldn’t do. Just unreal!! I don’t care who, but someone needs to fix this and get CBS back to us before Sunday!  Every other time this has happened I’ve not done/said anything because they say switching providers won’t help, but this happening with all the world’s problems right now and then taking away the channel airing such an anticipated event is just calculating and unacceptable. I will be switching tv providers after 15+ years with directv and I hope they see a huge number of people doing this, because regardless of negotiations , the companies involved are being evil and do not value/care about their customers or think about their actions and how they affect people during this difficult time.

People. You need to put pressure on the local channel operators, like COX Media relations, if that's the provider. I finally got a response from them by email after several days. Of course they still blame DirecTV, but remind them that you are watching COMMERCIAL television with them, so they already get paid just by you watching! Remind them that they have lost viewers now, so their advertising minutes aren't worth as much ... especially if you contact their advertisers and let them know what the local media outlet has done.
