There is no Directv app for a firestick. You are probably using the Directv Stream app. Directv Stream is a totally separate service from Directv satellite. You can use your Directv credentials with the various network apps but otherwise, there is no Directv app on a firestick or any other streaming device for satellite customers.

Well, let me see if I can give you some actually useful information because getting it from DirecTV support isn't always the best because, speaking metaphorically, sometimes the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.  What appears to be going on somewhere deep withing the bowels at DirecTV is they are focused on their "DirecTV Stream" service and it remains a work in progress.  I have a Galaxy S8 and the DirecTV app was updated recently and the app icon now looks like the DirectTV Stream logo like what you see at the top of this page.  I suspect there is a lot of work ongoing right now to align the back end systems' functionality across all platfroms--mobile, PC, iOS, Android, etc..

So for me, I usually like streaming live TV through Chrome browser in Windows 10.  Has worked well for the last couple of years, even after the death of Flash.  As of 9/8/21, it stopped working correctly. That appears to be due to some back end work that's going on with the stream authorization process.  Again, works fine on my Galaxy S8 Android phone on  the same network as my PC.  Worked on my PC just fine on 9/7/21.  So something changed.  Hopefully they will fix whatever they are doing and communicate to their support channels that this work is going on and when it will be finished so I can go back to my happy life of watching DirecTV on my computer.  I spend hours every night gaming on one screen and streaming DirecTV and other streaming services on my 2nd screen.   Couldn't be happier with that setup...but now it's broken and I'm sad.    Please fix it, DirecTV!   Fast!

@konadreamer So how exactly was that useful? There still is no Directv app for a firestick for satellite customers, regardless of what back end changes have occurred recently. Your streaming issues on a pc have nothing to do with the OP’s question.

@sandblaster @Xalcior  I'll let the OP decide whether or not my post contains any useful information.  Commiseration is not without its benefits.  Perhaps you didn't even understand what he said in his post.  He clearly states that there was a DirecTV app on his Fire Stick and it wasn't working.  Note the date of his post.  Same day that streaming on the PC is no longer working. Hmmm, coincidence?   After some sleuthing on my part, turns out that there was indeed a recent change in what's available for the Fire family of streaming devices concerning the DirecTV app.  It is suddenly MIA in the Amazon App Store.  And the previous version that was loaded onto my Kindle Fire now has a message to download a newer version that it says is available in the Amazon App Store, but when it re-directs you there, viola' there isn't one.  Meanwhile, back in the Amazon App Store on Amazon's website, there suddenly are a lot of unhappy reviews for the DirecTV app that is listed there as to it suddenly becoming non-functional on their particular streaming device.

So who do we go to for answers??  Amazon or DirecTV?  Why can't they simply announce to their customers what happened and why?  Somebody knows something, but they aren't talking about it;  no mention of it in the DirecTV Help account on Twitter.  Spent 3 hours last night chatting back and forth with a DirecTV agent on Twitter.  He wasn't able to figure out the issue.  And as of this writing, still can't stream on my PC.  Again I ask, does the right hand know what the left hand is doing?

To which I pointed out there is no Directv app for satellite customer on a firestick which means the app in use was probably  the new Directv Stream app. There is not now nor has there ever been a Directv app for satellite customers on any streaming device be it a firestick, a Roku, an Apple TV or anything else. The Directv app available for satellite customers is for phones and tablets only, hence there may have been a version for a kindle, not a firestick. I get the feeling you don’t believe me, which is fine but there is not now nor has there ever been a Directv app for satellite customers that works on a firestick.

DTV streaming is not a DTV product it is a rebranded AT&T product that started out as DTV Now then became AT&T TV or AT&T TV Now.

@sandblaster  He didn't explicitly say that he was using the DirecTV Stream app on his Fire Stick, he referred to it as the "directv app".   Could have been DirecTV Now or AT&T TV if you want to expand further.  I took him at face value since the app appears on devices in the Amazon Fire lineup.  But you are correct, that particular app is just for mobile devices.  (Although one might be able to use the app on a (Edited per community guidelines) Fire Stick)  ;-) The good news in all of this is now you have moved up in the trust rankings ahead of DirecTV Help on Twitter, who just sent me an update that the PC streaming issue appears to be "global".    So perhaps the hours upon hours of troubleshooting I did on my own wasn't a complete waste.   In the mean time I'll get a free trial of Fubo or YouTube TV so I can watch the rest of the US Open until DirecTV gets its act together.   If you're listening, DirecTV, there are other options.

Update:  Streaming service has been restored on my PC.  Yay!  But I must say, I'm on a trial of YouTube TV right now and it is very nice in look and feel.  But streaming content is their bread and butter.  Comparing the two side-by-side, the video frame rate is much smoother on YouTube TV than DirecTV Video Player.  No jitter, stutter, or resolution degradation.

That is because all streaming services changes the resolution to fit your bandwidth where DTV sends it it in the resolution it was made in.

@konadreamer there was no reason to say that, and ACE members are able to correctly interpret and answer a question on the forum, thank you very much! The OP can try downloading an APK on the FireStick to get the DIRECTV app partially working. The only problem is that an external mouse needs to be connected in order for the app to operate. @Xalcior it is possible to get the DIRECTV app (not STREAM) on a fire stick but it requires a few extra steps and is kind of glitchy.

@konadreamer

DirecTV is satellite service. The app is for mobile devices only (smart phone and tablet) and is not made for any TV streaming device at all (Firestick, Roku, etc.). You pay $7 for each authorized TV on the service, so the app on a TV streaming device is not allowed. You are not permitted to get a free TV on the service.

DIRECTV STREAM is the new name of AT&T TV NOW, which originally was called DIRECTV NOW. That is a streaming-only service so does allow the app on TV streaming devices as that is what it is built for. Unfortunately the rebrands have caused confusion where some people mistake it for DirecTV.

The two are separate TV providers that have no affect on each other. Either the OP has the DIRECTV STREAM app that they are mistaking for DirecTV or they are trying to violate their Terms of Service and somehow force the DirecTV app onto Firestick where it doesn't belong.

So the fact is there has not been a DirecTV app for Firestick and never has been. So most likely the OP is mistaken about what app they are trying to use.

"That is because all streaming services changes the resolution to fit your bandwidth where DTV sends it it in the resolution it was made in."

Well, here's what my user experience is at the moment between the two streaming services.  I have two browser windows open on two different HD monitors watching the same content channel side-by-side, one streaming through YouTube TV, the other through DirecTV , not DirecTV Stream.  I'm not seeing any degradation whatsoever of the  YouTube TV stream. Smooth, consistent, stable FHD.   On the DirecTV side, seeing some stuttering and pixelation.   It's a noticeable difference.  I'm not sure why that is.   I have 450+ Mbps of download bandwidth.  Plenty to handle multiple streams of FHD content easily at 60 fps. (Nvidia GTX 1070, Intel i7-8750H, 32Mb RAM in case you're wondering).   If DirecTV Stream service offered a free trial I could do a head-to-head against YouTube TV and maybe the stream quality would be better since it's a dedicated streaming service rather than a streaming add-on for a primary satellite service.  They don't at this time.  Maybe on DirecTV Stream I could also watch two different content channels at the same time like I can on YouTube TV.  That's really nice!  Can't do that with DirecTV's internet streaming option.  Not supported.  Certainly makes one consider all the options in the marketplace.

Your end maybe able to handle the speed needed to stream 1080 but what about the route from the channel server to you.

Yeah, totally agreeing with you.  AT&T/DirecTV certainly managed to make it easy for customers to get confused on what's what and who's on first.  Third base!   ;-)

Dedicated streaming services adjust on the fly to account for fluctuations in internet.

DirecTV's was not built to that level, including upload from the various channel servers. So even if your own internet is great, doesn't mean the upload to the internet or the route taken to you is that good.

Yes streaming with a bit of improvement would be a great compliment for DirecTV. But at this time I think they need to fix the equipment restrictions caused by recent decision makers. Hopefully the new co-owner of DirecTV will have the focus to bring it back up to the quality we are accustomed to.

@shannon02   Yeah, so many factors play into it, including YouTube's being built around content streaming.  It's their core competency, something DirecTV could learn from as noted by @Juniper .
