Does DIRECTV offer local channels?

Really old Directv customer. Currently CenturyLink Prism which is going away March 31st. Thinking about satellite TV again after 22 years and in poking around the website I noticed that apparently Directv doesn't offer local channels anymore, at least I don't see them mentioned on the site. What am I missing?

If you had service that long ago, then that is when locals were optional. Now all packages include local channels, provided they are available for your area.

www.directv.com/locals and verify what would be provided.

Yes, Directv offers locals and I’m pretty sure locals are included on every programming package. Where exactly are you looking that you aren’t seeing them?

They are still offered however they may be in contract negotiations with the networks

As I stated, I didn't see anything related to the local channels or their listing. What local channels would I get at 80104?

Thanks

I was looking at DirecTV's website and the packages available. I saw no mention of any locals and/or what they might be. Maybe I missed it.

I was a customer when they first started, before the days of DirecTV. A customer for 22 years but then switched to Prism TV from the local phone company and then moved. I now have the same service on fiber however they are closing shop on the 31st of March. Was thinking about going back to satellite TV and had always had pretty good relations with DirecTV up until about six years ago until the AT&T take over!

Thanks for your reply, I'll check your link.

From checking their local channel lookup tool per the zip code you provided, it appears there are 14 channels (all but 1 with an HD feed).

As you canceled so long ago, they will not be able to reactivate the old account but start fresh. You would start on the new billing model, so make sure that if you do get service that you read through the order confirmation carefully before you are installed and activated.

Thank you for your reply.

A old long time customer and perhaps about to re-join DirecTV. My current TV via Prism TV with CenturyLink is about to go away and shopping for a replacement service for TV. I've been looking for an out the door price! (monthly). I want a 4 set (wireless) hook up with the Premiere package. I still have some questions about that package. I'm not sure if it would include the NFL package. No NASA in HD?,. I currently have internet via fiber @ 80Mbps, would I have to get internet with AT&T?

All I want is satellite TV.

You don’t need to change internet. Direct is compatible with any internet provider.

DirecTV is TV by satellite. Internet is not required. If you choose to have your setup connected to internet, you get access to On Demand as well as ordering PPVs by the remote.

Intro offers tend to be up to 4 TVs on provided equipment. This would be Genie and 3 Mini Genie Clients. Genie is a 5 tuner, 1TB hard drive, HDDVR. Mini Genies being clients, not receivers, have no tuners or recording space of their own so steal that capability from the Genie. Only Mini Genies have a wireless model. The wireless video bridge (WVB) that serves as the antenna is not covered by any free offers, but a one-time purchase of $99 for the owned accessory. The wireless is up to 80 foot range under ideal conditions. Main Genie and WVB are wired themselves.

The NFL Sunday Ticket being free for the 1st season is common in many intro offers. However that might not be available year-round, but closer to when the new season would start. Make sure to read through any offer carefully, including the order confirmation if you choose to get DirecTV.

You have fiber but only 80Mbps? That sounds more like DSL. Fiber is usually over 200Mbps, with potential to reach 1000Mbps (1Gbps). I wonder if the fiber doesn't go directly to the home so uses older connections to make the final distance to you.

Yes my internet is at 80 Mbps, some of the bandwidth is used up by my Prism TV. Yes there is fiber to the house. I watched them put it in and connect it. Being an old coax guy I was very much interested it the actual fiber connection! It is terminated to the house in what is called an ODU and then cat5 to my router then cat5 to the main box.

All other boxes are connected to the TV's via wireless. All TV's are connected via HDMI from their respective boxes.

If you have Cat5, not even Cat5e, that may be your bottleneck then as it only supports bandwidth up to a possible max of 100Mbps. If that is the case, I would suggest replacing with Cat6 or Cat6a depending on your planned use in the future (since even Cat5e is a bit dated). Fiber to the home (FTTH or other such designations) should not be stuck in double digits. That way you are not loosing bandwidth along Ethernet that is rated below what you can receive.

By "other boxes" I take it you mean whatever you use for your current TV service. The information I provided was specifically for DirecTV as they only have one wireless option within limits, which has nothing to do with internet. So coax from receiving dish to Genie and separately to WVB, wireless to any wireless Clients you have which naturally are connected to TV by HDMI.
