El Rey / Fusion gone?

I just got a message telling me El Rey and Fusion are gone. It said to go to att.com/channelupdate (or something like that) for more info. I got a 404, so clearly misremembered the URL. What gives?

rights to provide Fusion and El Rey Network channels expire on 1/23/20.

Can you explain in somewhat greater detail what the reason is that the license to carry the channel is expiring and why it cannot be renewed? I much prefer this channel's offerings to SyFy's reruns of CSI and dumping of action flicks that have no science fiction content.

As I don't work for AT&T/DirecTV I don't have first hand knowledge of the reason. I can only assume it is not worth it from a business standpoint to keep those two channels since they don't even mention negotiating and that the channels will just no longer be offered. Other than that the only normal reason would be if the channel owner is doing a complete shutdown (like Chiller, Cloo, SoapNet, etc.) but haven't seen such a notice on Fusion and El Rey so guess they will still be with some providers for a while longer.

I just found out as of 1-20-20 that El Rey will no longer be on Directv. Since this is the only reason I pay an extra $85 a month for the ultimate package, I can now downgrade to choice and save that extra $85 a month and no longer pay $200 a month for tv. Thanks Directv for saving me that money.

Lowering package will save cost, going from Ultimate to Choice is not an $85 difference but about $25. Still a good savings though.

I’m just going by what AT&T customer service told me that my bill would go from $200 a month to $114 a month by going to choice

That agent either was offering some impressive discount on top of the package change (unlikely since discounts have been reeled in), or simply misquoted (on purpose or by mistake). Even Premier (the most expensive current package) is only $79 more than Choice as includes all 5 premium packs. Ultimate and Choice are $25 apart.
