Error unable to retrieve configuration

Have ipad 2, have been using direct tv IPad app for approx 1 wk. Everything was working fine, all receivers connected via home network and fully functional.

Tonight the app was working fine but then quit working suddenly. Now just get error message when opening the app. Says "retrieving application configuration" then pop up displays "error unable to retrieve configuration"

Tried reestablishing wireless connection on iPad- no change
Tried relocating to where signal strength was max'd out- no change
Tried resetting modem- no change
Tried deleting and reloading app- no change

Frustrated and unable to use this otherwise great app. Any advice on how to fix?

I as well had thi problem and still do at times,my resolution after trying all what you guys did as well was to turn off all programs running in background. And hard booting the ipad2.

Killing apps in bground by dbl tapping start button and programs ome up on the btm of screen press and hold till they shake and little minus signs appear on upper left corner.

Tap minus sign on all icons till all gone, at this point hard boot... Hold start button and on/off switch at same time till screen goes blank and the apple icon returns, release buttons at that point, when iPad starts u will have all your memory avail. That was occupied previously, start DTV app

It should go through its start up file remarkably fast and work.. It did it for me hope it works for you,... Hope there is an update soon with a fix..Money mouth

App worked fine with my old gen 1 iPad. Just got new gen 3 iPad, restored settings & apps to it from iTunes b/u, now app returns only this same error message. Tried everything listed above, including memory flush and reboot. Help?

Try pointing the DNS settings for your iPad, to 8.8.8.8. And try again.

We have seen some ISP's lately have some DNS issues.

What is your ISP, and DNS IP Address that they normally assign to you?

Wow I have been trying to figure out this issue for weeks. Setting my DNS to 8.8.8.8 fixed it. The app is working great now. Thanks. You guys should send out an email about this or something. I am sure there are lots of other people with the same issue.

My iPad app also worked well for me for a long time...until about a month ago.  I just tried the 8.8.8.8 in my DNS line and I can at least get past the Retrieving Configuration Error and the app loads.  But now I can't get my app to see my receiver.  Also, before you ask, my DVR is fully connected to the internet.  TV apps work, all other parts of the DVR internet activity works.  Only my DTV app won't connect properly.  The IP addressess match, I have changed the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and it still doesn't quite work.

I am also getting this error. It has been working fine until I switched out to a new router. I kept the ssid of the router the same but had to change the passord. I first reset my cinema kit router, resetting the new password to the wireless router. I came to iPad app to look for a movie tonight, but I keep getting this error. I have tried restarting the iPad, reinstalling the app, setting the DNA to 8.8.8.8, and changing the app setting to reset on startup. Nothing works. Any ideas?

Try removing the App, RESETTING the iPad and reinstalling the App.  I'd guess your iPad is still looking for the old router.

I re installed when I was out of town and it worked fine, but then I bring it back home and I get the error again.  Not sure what to do, but it seems like the app should have some way to load to a valid state no matter what the error.
