finally figured it out...

I have been having problems with getting TVersity to work with my HR24-500.I  Found  that if you used version_1_7_4_1. At install, DO NOT install the codecs offered to you, but instead, use the CCCP codecs. This worked great for me and now I can see my movies on all of my DirecTV boxes thru Whole Home DVR Media Share. I've tried a lot of programs but TVersity has the best quality hands down. some of my 1080P files are a little sketchy at times.  Have had no problem with 1080i 720p. Hope this can save some people some time because I've wasted way too much!!!..Yell.

CCCP Codec Pack....

PS...To make sure it did not install TVersity codecs.  in program files , go to the folder TVersity if there are two TVersity folders  the one on top is the codecs pack. open folder and Uninstall...Cool

Nice post.  I haven't tried the CCCP codec pack but will do so soon.  Of course TVersity 1_7_4_1 is the version we always recommend.  A point of clarification re the PS.  The location of the codec pack uninstall is Start -> Control Panel -> Program & Features -> TVersity Codec Pack.

You keep the TVersity.  Answered in detail in your own thread.

Raypar,  I loaded and tested the CCCP codec pack and it works for me just fine, but I must say I wasn't having any problems with the TVersity codec pack.

CCCP is a standalone codec pack. other codec packs are not recommended and may cause problems. I was having problems with TVersity playing some and MKV files and some audio issues. Just out of curiosity, what are the maximum settings on media share,  resolution, birthrate ...thanksCool

I was able to get it working for the most part.  A have one video that is playing upside down.  I do receive an error that the bitrate exceeds media share AFTER  the videos play.  But for the most part it is playing well.

Thanks!  Your instructions worked for me, but I cannot play MKV files.  Should I re-install the standard TVersity codecs?

The new version of TVersity does not work properly as I and many others have discovered.  Of course that may change at any time as TVersity changes the versions.  Try for yourself and be sure to let us know how it works.

Well, I gave it a shot. I don't like itFrown... just putting it out there, media share  is not HD so you cant watch anything in HD. It will play an HD movies, but they're not in HD. mezzmo will start playing a movie and then stop 10 min into it. my PC is more than capable of playing HD movies. mezzmo says the transcoding is too high for PC, I play the exact same movie on TVersity and it plays without a hiccup...Cool

I got TVersity installed.. I also just did the CCCP Codec. I still got a few AVI files that wont play which is surprising. My MKV files that wouldn't play at first are now playing. Any suggestions?

Hey Guys! I have a HR21-100 receiver (HD, DVR). My media share used to work perfect then all of a sudden it stopped, and by reading your posts its probably because I let it update. So I am now in the process of reverting back to version 1.7.4.1, and i will also install the FFDShow codec pack. I will post back and let everyone know what happens! Thanx Guys!
