I just got off the phone with the Directv retention department and he told me that the update was pushed live on the 11/1/2011. Tried to reset the receiver and still didn't update. So they are sending a tech out to do a force download. He stated to me that all of his receivers got the upgrade are are scheduling techs to make home visits to force the updates.
if you read this thread then you are now aware that there is nothing that nobody can do to force the software. only when DirecTV authorizes your receiver is when your receiver will update. sorry you were badly misinformed. unless you have other malfunctions in your system, I would cancel the tech visit since the tech won't be able to update your receiver.

The person you talked to had received the update because he was a DirecTv employee, other users won't see the update until after the general rollout starts, maybe 11-8. A complete waste of time to have a tech visit, he can't force a download of the new UI.

I estimated we'd get it by Christmas or New Years. Maybe I should revise this to President's Day?

I'm a dealer in Vegas, our demo's got the new UI updates, the graphics are fantastic... but 1 problem found so far, there is a glitch in the simultaneous SD/HD output. If you connect a 2nd TV to the composite or S-video outputs, you can see the actual video picture, but the graphics do not display unless the primary resolution is set to 480i. Which means that the primary monitor (connected via HDMI) is also in SD.
Bottom line, the new software allows simultaneous HD and down-converted video output, but the UI graphics are not down-converted.
If you press the guide, info, or menu button, the TV connected to the composite/S-video ports shows a large grey banner across the middle of the screen that says something like.... "This is not an HD TV or connecting cable, please press the RES button until this message disappears".
In thinking this over, this will be a serious problem for people using DVD recorders and people using HD receivers on non-HD TV's.
I hope Directv plans on correcting this issue!!

It's not a problem for people with HD receivers connected to non-HD TVs, because you just have to set the resolution to 480i. It IS a problem for people with HDTVs connected to the HDMI output, and then SDTVs connected to the SD (composite) video output at the same time. It is because both outputs are actually showing the same picture, DirecTV has no way of delivering the HD signal with the HD GUI and the SD signal with the SD GUI at the same time. I don't know if this problem is actually fixable. As far as I know DirecTV does not sell the "simultaneous output" as a feature, it's just that people have found out both video outputs are active at the same time and so connect two TVs.

Another solution is to get a Component-to-Composite Video converter ....
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011407
This device will convert the HD DVR/Receiver's HiDef Component Video output to an SD Composite Video signal that will feed your remote TV. If you use an RF Modulator to convert to a Ch3/4 coax signal, you can connect the RF Modulator to the converter's Composite Video output instead of the DVR/Receiver's Composite Video output. This video signal will be there regardless of the DVR/Receiver's video resolution setting.
