free HBO until May 31 2020

I received message that I had free HBO until the end of May. Went to the channels and I don't get them, so I called and because I have older equipment my HBO channels are in the 500's not 1500. I've been with them for 18years and because I won't upgrade the won't honor the message they sent to me.

AFAIK the free HBO channels are only the On Demand ones on the1504 that needs an internet connected DTV receiver to get them. The only DTV receivers that can't be connected to the internet are the SD only receivers that are now obsolete as DTV is shutting down the MPEG2 channels so you need to contact DTV for a swap order.

HBO On Demand is 1501, starting number same as the HBO satellite channels (501).

HD non-DVRs cannot connect either, not just SD only boxes.

Would need to know the exact models @bear16332 has in order to verify if any are required to be swapped, or if it is just an optional upgrade to consider.

@bear16332

Agent gave inaccurate info.

HBO channels are 501 thru 509 and 511.

HBO On Demand is 1501. The channels in the 1000s, On Demand, are the online libraries. Those are only accessible with an HDDVR connected to home internet. This is because it downloads the content to the box, a form of recording.

Having old boxes would not prevent you from getting HBO. But if you have an HD non-DVR, then you just wouldn't get On Demand.

The only concern is if your equipment is SD-only capable (MPEG-2). DirecTV has been shutting down the very old feeds since April 2019, so going forward we all need MPEG-4 boxes and receiving dishes. To see if this truly affects you (as opposed to an agent trying to scam an upgrade), what are the exact models of each box you have?

Also outside of any specials your account receives (remember to call and remove when done as those are normally roll to cost), the owner AT&T is doing additional free previews for everybody.

March 24, 2020

Movies and television have always been a welcome escape in difficult times. With many people staying at home, we’re giving our video customers additional content at no cost during this time.

We’ll kick things off by providing an extended complimentary preview of SHOWTIME for our DIRECTV and U-verse customers starting March 20 until March 26 (if SHOWTIME isn’t part of their current video package). Starting March 26-April 2, DIRECTV and U-verse customers will get a complimentary preview of Starz. In the coming weeks, we’ll offer additional previews of premium channels, while also expanding to include our AT&T TV and AT&T TV NOW customers:

EPIX: 4/2-4/16

HBO and Cinemax: 4/17-4/20
