Future reality

In the ultimate future dvd blu ray and even cd will not exist for the majority of customers.  All media will come into the home digitally.  The question is which device/company will be the center of the universe so to speak or will just be one of many providers.  Directv is well positioned for  this but will have to get equipment in common use that has a full functioning internet browser and can play at high resolution any media regardless of where it originates(net, customers computer etc.  To do this the box has to play all formats it is presented(no video codex issues etc.) and must play photos at high resolution. Current media share has very limited capability.  This opens up the opportunity for google tv to be the central device simply by having directvs hdmi output as one of their inputs among lan etc.  They will then connect to the TV direct or through a receiver.Having the direct tv box serve these functions would keep google out of their business.  Just my thoughts.

These last few years have seen renewed interest in virtual and
augmented reality, as Moore’s Law has finally allowed these
technologies to become available to consumers.  Much of that interest
has focused on experiences for individual participants, or else for
people located remotely from each other, as in on-line gaming
applications.

The focus of new researches are for exploring how people will use future mixed reality technologies to better communicate and interact with each other when they are in the same physical space.  Creating such experiences is quite challenging, as it requires very high spatial accuracy and very low latency.

The argument for taking this more challenging approach is simple: When
given the choice, people engage in activities that involve the
physical presence of people they know, whether those activities be
seeing a movie or play, going to a music concert, dining at a
restaurant, watching sports, or just hanging out over a beer.

Physical presence will continue to be central to interaction
between people.  We envision the resulting future as a place where
language itself will take on new and rich visual dimensions, a sort of
combination of Harry Potter and Harold and the Purple Crayon.

Woah....replying to a 10 year old post.  I think that's a new record.

Don't mess with old people.  The older we get, the less "Life in Prison" is a deterrent.

Not quite a new record, but that old is few and far between.

However, interestingly enough this thread seems the perfect place for that post. The OP was talking about media going completely digital and the response goes further with the view of such technology expanding to augmented/virtual reality in what people enjoy as media. So instead of creating a whole new thread, that would appear to have nothing to do with DirecTV, they respond to a very unique thread that had a logical leap/segue to what they wanted to contribute.

Usually responding to this old a post is someone throwing a tantrum, or needs help with an issue and finds outdated info. So this I must say was refreshing to see as was not inappropriate to post to that old a post.

Ugh, I hope not, but recent events put that as a fair possibility.
