How come DirecTV STILL hasn’t fixed the issue with recording the wrong channel for sporting events?
Say your team is playing against a team from another city. You get the sports channel for your team but not that other city. Which channel should your season pass record, the channel you get or the one you don’t? If you said the wrong one, you’re probably one of the DirecTV programmers because clearly that’s what the system thinks.
Example: tonight the Warriors we’re playing Cleveland, I have a season pass for the Warriors. I turn on my TV after getting home and press the list button to watch the game. Well, I can’t watch the game because it recorded the Cleveland channel even though I don’t get that channel. It does this at least fifty percent of the time. WHAT IS THE POINT OF LETTING US SELECT OUR FAVORITE TEAMS IF YOUR SYSTEM STUPIDITY FORCES US TO DO IT MANUALLY?
This problem has been going on for years and many people complain about it. Fix it.

Did you use the guide and press the record button twice on the sport channel and time of the Warriors game?

I have set the season pass to record many times over the years and this problem has always remained. If the game is on two different networks, there’s a high chance it’ll record the one the user is NOT subscribed to rather than the correct one. You literally have to go through the scheduled recordings and manually correct every game or just record them game by game which negates the purpose of the season pass.

The purpose of the season pass is to get out-of-market games, regardless if you record them or not. So having to set recordings manually through the guide to ensure you get the correct version, though is annoying, does not negate the purpose of the pass itself.

All I know is I set up a series recording for the Dodgers using the guide and it has recorded only the correct channel and time but I still have to setup a recording when they are on Fox or ESPN.

You people really don’t seem to understand. This is an ongoing problem for many people. That’s literally how I found this forum, because other people were complaining about the same thing. If you set a team as your favorite team, it is supposed to record all the games, but instead of recording the correct broadcast, it records the wrong one. Game is on two channels, one blacked out and one that’s available. It should never choose the blacked out one…ever. It’s an EASY software fix, but they’re too lazy to fix it.

We understand not being able to set it as a series recording and have to do it manually program by program to ensure you get the right version is annoying for you and many others. Unless the new co-owner who is managing DirecTV at this point changes that in the future, this is how it will be.
I stand by my point it does not negate the season pass. That makes the events available in the first place, regardless of how you record them or if you don't have a DVR in the first place.
Everyone who claims it is an "easy" fix, should put there money where their mouth is and go work for DirecTV. They can program a solution between DirecTV and the different sports league's broadcast. Perhaps it is a simple fix, perhaps not, but assuming it is without seeing the system first hand I think is being a bit presumptious. As for "lazy" well I suspect it is more of they have higher priorities in the business. I doubt those who could work on the fix are just sitting around doing nothing. They are most likely working on things considered more imporant. That wouldn't be lazy, just not the priority you want.

If a company is unwilling to fix, which is not the same as laziness (though an issue for many, it just may not as high up on the priority list for them), then your options are to accept it and adjust how you use the service or go elsewhere.
Only those who have eyes on the system and programming, including between other comapanies as they don't control the broadcast only receive it to pass it on, can trully say whether it is an easy fix or not. Anyone else saying it is "easy" are just assuming, as there could be other factors or complexity they are not aware of. That is why my position is go work for them and get it fixed if it is so easy for you, essentially put your money where your mouth is (so to speak).
Yes, would be nice for this to finally get fixed. Perhaps the new co-owner will do something after smoothing out the migration. Until then (if it does ever get fixed), it is either adjust as suggested or go to another provider.

Yes! Yes! Yes! This is the absolute worst, we all have the same problem. Usually, mine records both out of market for 0 min and my in market for the game. But a few days ago, it started just recording the out of market for 0 min.
This has been happening all these years. Seems like such a simple thing to prioritize for a corporation as large as att! Makes me seriously consider alternative options to my $180 a month headache!

It is no longer AT&T's priority. The new co-owner TPG has taken over DirecTV operations. Still smoothing out to see what fixes, improvements, or other business directions occur.

DVRs are a dumb machine when confronted with the guide metadata from several channels broadcasting the same game so it usually picks the lowest channel (the first in order).

Let me put it this way. I went to get Fubo instead because of this issue. Fubo does not have the issue (or I got lucky that it chose the channel I want).
I have been a satisfied customer in general of DirecTV Stream. I can live with the fact that it is buggy. Bugs happen. In fact, a particular bug of Fubo's (long story) made me choose to stick with DirecTV Stream for now. However, there are three issues that make we keep my eye out for alternatives.
1. This issue.
2. The lack of support for hotkeys in the browser. It is the only browser video solution I've seen in a decade that doesn't support forward and back keys (and mute and play/pause, too). No, the mouse isn't a valid substitute. Yes, I was desperate enough that I programmed my keyboard to make it work, but it's a far cry from a real solution.
3. Sometimes I tune in to a recording and it puts me at the end, not the beginning. For a sporting event, this is a horrible bug.
I am a software engineer. I defer bugs every day because they are of lower importance. So, take the input above in this spirit: it was a stroke of luck that I didn't leave over this issue.

This is the forum for DirecTV (the satellite service). Your service DIRECTV STREAM is a different section. Big difference is physical DVR vs cloud DVR on those two services. Plus this is a thread from over a year ago.
Best to start a new thread in the appropriate section if you cannot find a recent relevant one.

No worries. They are in the same general forum being they share the same owner, just their own sections. Just want to make sure you get the info and answers for the right service, and that it doesn't happen to be out of date.
Doesn't help that AT&T couldn't give the streaming-only service a distinct name instead of overlapping with DirecTV. So much confusion has occurred because of that.
