How do I add Streaming Service Apps to the DirecTV Satellite service?
I've read replies to this going back 4+ years. In general, it looks like DirecTV isn't supporting it, why?
Dish does.
I have a Pandora account - DirecTV offers streaming for it.
I have a Sirius XM account - DirecTV doesn't offer streaming for it.
I have a Netflix account - DirecTV does not offer a streaming app for the Genie. (Dish does & DirecTV Stream does.)
I have an Amazon Prime account - DirecTV does not offer a streaming app for the Genie. (Dish does & DirecTV Stream does.)
I have a YouTube account - DirecTV does not offer a streaming app for the Genie. (Dish does - I don't know about DTV Stream.)
All (we / I) am asking for is an Internet enabled App for the Genie that allows us to Stream other services, just as we do Pandora.
I remote, and access to multiple services - what's wrong with being "Convenient", what's wrong with being "User Friendly", what is wrong with having a "Voice enabled" remote control?

This is a customer to customer forum. All those services are competitors and not all people have good enough internet to use them. DTV has decided to remain a satellite TV service at the present time, this may change with the new partner.

DirecTV is service by satellite. Streaming providers, such as Netflix are competitors. Dish Network is an exception as they have had an agreement with Netflix, which did include (don't know if it still does) Netflix's DVD options to supplement their programming.
DIRECTV STREAM is a streaming-only provider, built specifically for internet services. Unlike DirecTV (satellite) it is available on streaming-only devices. As such, it supports their service model by having their own streaming box support other streaming apps.
DirecTV used to have a YouTube app years ago. Then YouTube updated their format upon launch of their paid streaming service, becoming a competitor. Naturally no new app was made for DirecTV.
It may not be convenient for you, but the logic behind it is sound. This separation of satellite and streaming is expected not to change for the foreseeable future. Perhaps if the fantasy of fast and stable enough internet is available nationwide (rural, less population density, etc.). then that could change somewhere far in the future.

Thank you for the replies. BTW, I'm very rural - my Internet is AT&T Fixed Wireless (basically Cellular service.)
In the end, all we are really asking for is the ability to add more Apps to the Genie.
I'm an engineer first, and Salesman second - however, I know enough to know inviting a competitor to the table complicates sales. Meaning, refusing to broaden the add on apps for the Genie is forcing people to utilize Streaming services. one doesn't have to wonder very hard how many of those people simply switch to 100% streaming service and DirecTV loses a customer?

DirecTV is built (engineered if you will) for satellite service. Streaming perks are secondary, only so far as they support DirecTV. In the end how it is built must support the business for their sales and revenue, regardless of what they might be able to technically build.
They have DIRECTV STREAM (previously called AT&T TV / AT&T TV NOW and even DIRECTV NOW before that) for streaming options. If you want streaming providers alongside DirecTV, then you get a streaming box of your choice (Roku, Firestick, etc.).

My question is why? More and more tv’s have the apps built in and streaming devices are very affordable.
Huh? An app is just an app. Even if an app was available on the Genie, it’s still a streaming service.

Yes, true all of that. However, let's not forget this requires an extra remote control, and the need to train the more "technically challenged" amongst us - this is how you switch from HDMI-1 (Genie) to HDMI-3 (Firestick.) Yes, just like you do to switch to HDMI-2 (Blueray | DVD player.) No, grandma, you must use this remote for the firestick. I know the old Dish system allowed you to use the Dish remote to watch Amazon, Netflix and YouTube - DirecTV is still in the stone ages. I know, their remote doesn't have a backlight, and no it doesn't support Voice commands. We are taking a trip back to the Stone Ages now.

DirecTV does have backlit remotes. As mentioned, they have "B" in the model number. They are not given out, so you must purchase them if you really want one.
Remotes are for controlling DirecTV and the TV (including changing input). DirecTV decided to go away from a universal remote as was not beneficial to them to try and control a multitude of other devices (DVD, Blu-ray, VCR, streaming devices, etc.). If you are greatly desiring a universal remote, you get your own that works best for your wants.
Them not catering to everything you want is certainly not going back to the stone ages. You could go back to plugging in your clunky remote to the TV or even no remote at all so must pick yourself up and make the journey to turn the dials.
Dish Network has an agreement with Netflix, so they work differently. DirecTV does not have an agreement with any streaming provider, as their focus is on the satellite service they provide, so do not need to provide an option for what would be a competitor that is not worth it.
It seems the summary of your complaints is that DirecTV does not have the options you want but Dish Network does. If that is the case, then the path is clear. Go with the provider that works best for you.

DirecTV and DIRECTV STREAM are two completely separate TV providers. One is not an extension of the other. They are just owned by AT&T and the new co-owner.
The two services have no interaction with their programming. You can have one or the other, or even both, as you choose.
If you need help with your service, suggest starting a new thread instead of posting to one about a year ago.
