How to get closed captioning

Before my Genie was programmed to my television, my tv remote would allow me to enact closed captioning. Now that the Genie is programmed to my tv, I can't utilize my closed captioning via my tv menu. When going thru the menu on Genie, I can't find an option for closed captioning, and I need it because I'm hard of hearing and most of the time can't understand what is being said, and I can't turn my tv up loud. Please let me know if anyone has this problem. I read forum questions about CC. but they are from 5 years ago, and the remote options are different now, because I tried their instructions, and the options they talk about are no longer. Thank You 😊

Press INFO then right arrow to CC on the DTV remote.

You may need to change the TVs input/source to ANT to get the CC menu back on the TV.

@shannon02 Thank you Shannon, it worked!! Also, thank you for the directions to put the CC back to the television remote also; I'll have to see which I like. Having the option is wonderful!!

We'd love to help with your closed captioning settings, @jenniekelly4557.

Are you seeing any black rectangle on your TV screen? Do you have closed captioning enabled on both your TV set and U-verse TV settings? If yes, we suggest that you disable close captioning on the TV set and then verify the settings on your U-verse TV using System information, located in Options > System.

We also suggest that you view this great article to get tips on how to set U-verse TV close captioning and language preferences.

@ATTHelp How about you give directions/suggestions for DirecTV and NOT Uverse. smdh

@ATTHelp I guess I've not asked this question properly. Today a Direct TV service man brought new DirecTV boxes for us, along with the Genie remote controls. I was not in the room when he programmed the TV & box with the Genie.

Before he came by, I had CC via my TV remote, enacted. After he left, I had no CC; so I went into my TV menu, I can access everything on the menu EXCEPT CC, I can neither turn it off or on. I gotta say, it concerns me that my CC is inaccessible. When I try to use my Genie menu, I don't see an option for CC. I have gone thru the booklet that came with the Genie remote, but see nothing about Closed Captioning. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Have you tried these steps to activate Closed Captioning? Please try those steps and let us know if they worked for you.

If it was either of the options for DirecTV CC/subtitles, just press INFO and scroll to the right where the CC options are.

If you mean your TV's own CC, for that you need to use the TV's remote to set the option.

@Juniper Thank you so much for your help!!!!! It worked in the information options just as you said. I would have NEVER seen that, I was looking in the settings-audio. You have made my life so much better 😊😊😊
