Included Direct TV Stream not working

A few months back I was advised that Direct Stream was now included with my Direct TV account and I have used it flawlessly on several rokus in my home where my satellite service is also.  As of 2 days ago I can not get it in any of my ROKU Express devices.  Spent at least an hour on the phone, yesterday, with tech support and got nowhere.  Nothing has changed on my internet provider (t-mobile home internet) or wifi.  All other streaming services work fine.  Why, all of the sudden do I see nothing but a buffering signal?

Do you mean the DirecTV satellite service? DirecTV satellite and DirecTV Stream are 2 different subscription services. Which service are you really referring to? Credentials are not interchangeable. DirecTV Stream is not included with DirecTV satellite.

I think folks are confusing the "new" streaming feature of their DirecTV Satellite service with the separate DirecTV Stream streaming service.

  • What are the errors you see?
  • Are you login out and logging in again?
  • Buffering signal meaning a spinning wheel?
  • Do you see this in all channels?
  • Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the channel from your Rokus?
  • Is this happening on all Rokus?
  • Have you tried with a mobile device?
  • What did the tech support tell you?

I meant the Direct Stream that I supposedly now get for free with my satellite service

@litzdog911 I agree. Folks don't understand that away from home, the streaming devices via HDMI are not allowed because the service does not see the receiver. Only mobile devices are allowed. Thus, programming is also very limited away from home.

The Directv app on Roku is supposed to be for both Directv and Directv Stream customers.

@vl_draper

DirecTV and DIRECTV STREAM are two different providers that do not come with each other. I believe you mean the secondary streaming perks that come with your DirecTV service. I know the names are confusing.

DirecTV - Service by satellite. If box is connected to internet you get On Demand. You can download the DirecTV app to a mobile device (smart phone or tablet). Historically, this does not allow for streaming on TV whether it be by casting/airplay or on a device like Roku.

DIRECTV STREAM - Streaming-only. Is available on devices like Roku. Also there is a company sold box if you so choose.

Now instead of each having their own app, there is a new one for both services. It still has some bugs, including where it may not work with the correct permissions of which of the two services you have. As for DirecTV (satellite), not allowing streaming to a TV from the app, that might be changing. Before it wasn't allowed because you pay for each authorized TV on the service, so streaming to TV would get around that plus risk account sharing. In either case the new app is going through growing pains.

The Roku app is for Stream or Satellite customers.

I am a bit confused why you are trying to watch DirecTV on Roku if you already have Directv at those TVs.

Ok, that makes it official. I take it even on the Roku app that the stremaing is very limited as not intended as a replacement for an actual receiver/client on that TV.
