MLB Extra Innings, NBA League Pass and suspended games the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic

Will we be getting a partial refund on our League Pass subscriptions since at least 2 weeks of games will be suspended?

All,

Since the beginning of baseball season has been delayed, we’re crediting charges for our customers’ MLB Extra Innings subscriptions. We will notify customers and restart charges once a decision is made about the baseball season.

The cancellation deadline for MLB EXTRA INNINGS will be extended to reflect the delayed start of the season. Additionally, any payments already made for the 2020 MLB season will be credited to customers' accounts.

There is no need to call for the refund, and please allow 1-2 billing cycles for credit(s) to appear. Billing will restart after the MLB announces the season start.

We’re also postponing payments for MLS Direct Kick subscriptions. We will notify customers and restart charges once a decision is made about the MLS season.

We are also actively monitoring developments with the suspension of the NBA season and will proactively communicate with NBA League Pass subscribers regarding potential refunds/credits as events develop.

Thanks,

The AT&T Community Team

My bill is showing 2nd installment of 6 for MLB package. Should I just call in to get this corrected?

@VLynn9399 Don't bother. I just tried to call. The automated answering refused to direct me to an agent. It kept misunderstanding what I was trying to say, even when I said "speak to an agent". I'm not paying my second installment. Screw this. I'm not here to indemnify their losses.

I too have been billed $30.50 (2nd installment) for MLB extra Innings. No telling when the 2020 baseball season will kickoff if at all. I will not pay the 2nd installment (subtracting $30.50) from my bill and will wait for a refund of $30.50 (installment 1) if baseball is not played this year.

@MrSteeler

Refusing to pay your bill is not how it works. Only goes bad for you with valid late fees, starting down the collection path.

Here is the actual situation with MLB Extra Innings:

The cancellation deadline for MLB EXTRA INNINGS will be extended to reflect the delayed start of the season. Additionally, any payments already made for the 2020 MLB season will be credited to customers' accounts.

There is no need to call for the refund, and please allow 1-2 billing cycles for credit(s) to appear. Billing will restart after the MLB announces the season start.

You will need to call DirecTV about any credits for your account. This is a public forum of other customers, and so far there has not been a public announcement regarding the League Pass.

Likely there will not be one automatically applied, but they may have one in place for people who call about it due to suspended games.

Yes I have called DirecTV. Only time I have had an issue getting through is right now. Many call centers closed, and even ones that are open have employees on extended leave. So of course they are short staffed. And the situation doesn't reduce how many people are calling in. So as a business and the individual employees, they are suffering just like the rest of us. Covid-19 situation is NOT funny.

@Juniper I do understand the situation Coronavirus put all of us in, but ATT/Directv gave us (i think) the chance to cancel programming. The problem I have is that they can't be contacted to do so. How is that helping us the customers, they needed and still do to find a way to give us another way to contact them. In the past you can cancel programming from their home page, that is no longer the case, that would have been very handy nowadays.

Sports subscriptions were only cancelable over the phone, like pretty much everything else. Their business model, like other companies, is built around having live agents talk to you in order to minimize how much revenue is reduced and to upsell other products and services.

With the situation they are very understaffed. They can't put more agents on the phone against stay at home orders. So it comes down to either one keeps trying to get through, or to give some time for stay at home orders to end so staffing can return to normal levels and call before the season starts to opt out.

@Juniper I did not state the the virus was funny, I take it very serious as I am up in my years and I have other conditions. There is nothing funny about it. Your suggestion to call DIRECT TV for assistance is funny. I agree they dont have the staff to support during these times and maybe you should not recommend that people call during these times. Why would you even suggest this knowing their situation. I do think that ATT should direct some energy to proper billing. Please do not try and put words in my mouth. Not one of your better responses.

You pay for the season so as of now, nothing has been cancelled. The season start may get delayed but until they actually decide to cancel part of the schedule and show less games, it is too soon to say what, if any, credit will be given.

No. Not until anything is actually cancelled. You pay for the season and as of now, all games are still scheduled to be played.

@ATTHelpForums That's really clueless...Why doesn't ATT/DTV simply NOT start charging us for MLB until the season definitively start in these unusual times to give customers a break?!? This is the kind of corp action that causes "cutting of the cord" to move on to other providers!

I'm interested in cancelling my extra innings package, but the is no way to contact anybody as when you call you have to wait for ever (in my case I waited for more than 3 hours). I'm told that I have until April 2nd to make changes, but if you can't contact them how in the world you can cancel it. I do understand the situation, but there must be another way to contact ATT.

Maybe you do not understand. There are NO games. ALL sports are currently cancelled. I, for one, would like to cancel my MLB Extra Innings subscription but it is very difficult to get thru to DirecTV by phone. There is no other way to cancel the subscription except by phone.

They are not canceled just postponed, only spring training was canceled and you only have until the March 26 postponed season opener to cancel after that you are locked into the full season.

@shannon02 Your statements mean nothing... There is no one to contact because AT&T has horrible customer service that is now magnified by the Covid-19 crisis.... Ultimately, this is AT&T's responsibility to correct! Especially when multitudes of customers are trying to get it rectified with NO RESPONSE!

If the season is actually canceled, then DirecTV would process reversals of the installments accordingly.

However at this time they are not canceled, only delayed/postponed. There is a chance of it being canceled, but that has not been announced yet. So without further official direction from MLB (or other leagues), billing remains as normal.

As for discuss with customer service unfortunately you must have patience for that. Covid-19 has left them severely understaffed.

There is no response here as this is a public customer to customer forum, not customer support itself. If you want to know officially what they are doing, or any further updates they release, then check the actual page they have with all the announcements.

Well operate at a profit with a smaller set of customers, or just operate at a loss until you go out of business by too heavily discounting the service to customers who cannot afford or are just feel entitled. It would be pathetic to keep giving unreasonable discounts.

People just need to learn to budget and quit trying to live so far beyond their means.

We get the MLB package each year and pay extra for it. Because of the COVID-19 virus, MLB has cancelled all games until further notice. So why is Directv billing me extra for the MLB package if it has been cancelled? I should not be paying for something that is not happening at the moment. I want a refund for any all funds that have been taken for the MLB. Has anyone else encountered this issue and if so, please let me know what you did. Thanks Stephanie
