My home local channels work for 24 hours while traveling
I can watch my DirecTV Satellite Denver, CO home local channels while travelling in Tucson, AZ for about 24 hours after I sign in to stream DirecTV on a Roku. After that, those local channels switch to Las Vegas, Nevada local channels. That's almost 500 miles/ 800 kilometers from Tucson. I can sign out and back in and start the 24 hours of Denver channels over again, but that becomes tedious. I can also pause the stream and then fast forward through commercials, but can't set a recording and watch it later.
I also cannot access my home DirecTV DVR as promoted by DirecTV though their emails to me. Their support representatives are all over the place on this issue with different answers coming from different agents.
Does anyone have the "real" answers as to how to access my home DVR while travelling and streaming? Is this even possible?

Yes you are supposed to be able to schedule recordings manually (not watch or delete). However, that option is known to have an issue right now. It is my understanding this is one of the various bugs as the website migrates over with the new co-owner's management.
DirecTV first and foremost is service by satellite for a single residence. You pay for each authorized TV on the service and your physical address determines the market you are in for your regional sports, locals, and taxes you are supposed to pay. Streaming the DirecTV app itself to a TV was not supposed to have worked (Roku or otherwise). Using a streaming device for local channel's specific apps on those TVs, then it is up to the channel owner if you get your home based locals or the ones where the IP is registering.
If streaming is vital for you, then yes another provider (DIRECTV STREAM, YoubTube TV, etc.) may be a better option. DirecTV is satellite TV with streaming as secondary perks that take a backseat on priority for any fixes (in my experience).

How do we get tv via Direct when we go to Yuma? We have direct at home from Sacramento. But when we get to Yuma AZ, the system keep searching but wil not lock in!

Please start a fresh thread as this is almost 2 years old. As there are different services, satellite (DirecTV) and streaming-only (DIRECTV STREAM or DirecTV by Internet), make sure you post in the right section. Fully describe the issue (symptoms, error message, equipment used, etc.) and the community will try and answer your questions.
