Not Authorized
Direct TV dropped NBC. When I try to use the NBC app, I get a message that says, "We're sorry. You are not authorized to access this content in your region because of programming rights restrictions. Please contact Direct TV for more information." If NBC isn't on Direct TV anymore, why am I being restricted from watching NBC on their app? Since when can Direct TV stop me from using an app that has nothing to do with them? Just because you dropped the network doesn't give you the right to restrict me from watching it elsewhere. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Your local NBC affiliate removed their feed from DTV and the provider (DTV) authorization needed to use their app with DTV log in not DTV.

Sorry, but what on earth does that mean? "provider (DTV) authorization needed not DTV."

DirecTV did NOT drop NBC. They are not allowed to carry the channel currently. The station owner (Tegna) is holding their local affiliate stations away in an attempt to get a higher rate for the new carriage agreement.
So yes, Tegna does have the right to restrict you from watching on the app. You are in their market so they control it.
Now that you have the facts you won't have cake in your face again.

NBC will not allow you to use you DTV login on their app until they reach an agreement to return the channel.

I don't want to use my DTV login. DTV doesn't carry NBC, so I want to watch NBC on their app. But I'm being punished because they're in a dispute? I'm being restricted from watching NBC on DTV, and I'm being restricted from watching NBC on NBC's app because I have DTV for other channels? That's really messed up. Just drop the (Edited per community guidelines) station already and let me find another way to watch it.

Hello @lanunz, we know this situation is concerning, and we apologize for the interrupted programming. We’re working with TEGNA to bring back those channels. You can stream certain shows and events using the station's websites, such as NBC.com and NBCsports.com. To learn how, you can visit TVpromise.com. DIRECTV cares about you. It's not concerning...it's absurd. While you work to reach an agreement, I should be able to use another app without the fact that I use DTV for other channels getting in the way. My monthly price goes up and I lose the ability to watch anything on NBC on my TV, through DTV or any other app. It's inconvenient and ridiculous. You're still getting your money, and I'm getting punished. Like I said, just drop the (Edited per community guidelines) network already and let me move on and find another way to watch it.

It is your local NBC channel that is not allowing you to watch their app, not DTV.

We apologize for the missing channel and don't want to see you go. DIRECTV is working with Tegna, the owner of these local broadcast stations, to renew its local stations at the right value. Please check TVPromise.com for updates. Let's meet at DM to check what options we have available for you. Duvan, DIRECTV Community Specialist

You can not use an app to watch "live tv" unless you have a paid subscription (that's not currently in a contract dispute)with a live TV provider that includes that channel because that channel ALWAYS checks for authorization from that particular channel, so in your case using any NBC app to watch live programming is going to block your access. It's Tegna that's blocking it not Directv. It's like this with ALL pay TV providers whenever there's a carriage dispute not just directv

AFAIK if in the unlikely event that DTV and Tegna don't reach an agreement then you will never have access to NBC's app so long as you have DTV. It is your local NBC affiliate that is punishing you for having DTV.

Per Tegna you are not allowed to use the app. It is only with their authorization, because you are in their market, on if you may watch or not. Tegna took that authorization away from DirecTV, so as a DirecTV customer you may not watch it until Tegna gives it back.
This situation happens with every TV provider. They don't own the channels but have carriage agreements. Local affiliate owners like Tegna are more often pulling the feed in recent years. They are trying to raise the rates to TV providers which in turn raises your bill that much further.
Hopefully it will be a short negotiation like it was 3 years ago. In the meantime if you seriously cannot live without the channel for a few days (or perhaps a couple weeks or so), then plug in a regular antenna. Though Tegna can stop you watching it through anything that recognizes your DirecTV subscription, they cannot stop the regular over-the-air (OTA) free antenna broadcast unless they shut themselves completely off from everyone regardless of provider.
Otherwise be patient and watch something else. You have many other channels you actually pay for. I stand by that most do not go to pay TV for our free locals. We went to pay TV because local TV wasn't cutting it.

All satellite, cable and streaming TV providers continue to battle greedy corporations that demand more and more money to deliver FREE off-air channels.
Check out this excellent video explaining why corporate network owners keep demanding more and more money from cable, satellite and streaming providers to deliver FREE off-air TV stations ....

If you subscribe to the Peacock streaming service you can watch your NBC network shows the day after they air.

Thanks for all of the replies. I discovered that I can watch my local NBC live news on their website and NBC shows on the NBC website a couple of days later because they don't know that I have DTV.
Because I use their internet, Spectrum sent me an email a couple of days after DTV stopped carrying NBC entitled "DirecTV left you in the dark?" with a 12 month offer for streaming that includes ALL the channels I typically watch. Even with taxes and surcharges and a fee for cloud DVR, it's still less than what I'm currently paying DTV. After 12 months, it will be similar to DTV. Can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm seriously considering it if NBC/DTV don't reach an agreement soon. They have a 7 day free trial so I can see how it compares. Maybe I'll come back in 12 months if NBC is restored, but if Spectrum is better (again, I can't believe I'm even saying that), maybe I won't.
