SOUND FIELDS

New customer>> Hooked up my HR22 via HDMI cords thru my home theater surround sound. When hooked up this way and with Dolby Digital set to on all I am recieving is Linear PCM DD ProLogic and the sound is just ok. However if I plug in a Optical Cable out of HR22 and into my home theater reciever it switrches to DD Digital in Multi Channel Decoding 3/2.1 and the sound fields are SO much better. Question, how come this field is not picked up thru the HDMI cord hook up?? My old cable HDDVR box was able to multi channel decode thru making a couple of audio output menu adjustments. Surely with DirecTV super technology this should be normal not having to use a differant sound source to recieve true 5.1 surround sound. What's up with this?
