Tegna - Directv dispute

Its now 2024, how much longer will this blackout last? The streaming option is (Edited per community guidelines). If I want to stream all my local stations then why am I paying for Directv?

This is becoming ridiculous! You cant even stream the NBC shows because your service is connected to Directv.

About ready to throw out Directv after 20+ years

Not being gullible. But if DirecTV caves, then our bills go up even more than they would have. Disputes like the one Tegna is pulling is the primary reason for costs being higher.

DirecTV's operating costs go up, then so do our bills. Simple economics. Nothing that has been said is an "excuse" just the reality of the situation. That is the bottom line.

So you are willing to pay even more for Tegna channels? I am not. I want DirecTV to minimize that increase the best they can.

Oh and you are not paying for ABC guaranteed. You are paying for locals in general. As long as a single local is provided, no matter which one, then you are getting exactly what you pay for.

Share your concerns with Tegan as well as they are ones who are trying to raise rates even higher and are the ones who chose to take the channel away. If you cannot live without the channel. Only telling one side is not seeing the full situation, no excuse. Even Walker and James Bond have no power over this.

The station has no voice in this as Tegna owns it.

I agree to disagree with you. Since your talking simple economics, then you know this will in the end hurt D/T more, because I can promise you folks think in the simple terms, caring about who's at fault is just not going to matter. FYI I did share my concerns and disgust with Tegna, but again its D/T that cashes my check so to speak. Fix It, enough is enough!

Just because you want to pay $20 more instead of $10 doesn't mean everyone else does.

Who in their right minds wants to pay more, I refuse as do many other customers to be caught in-between what appears to be corporate greed. I am not pointing fingers I have no idea who's at fault and neither do you. I ask you does it really matter? Just fix it enough is enough.

DirecTV has two choices. Either stand their ground and continue negotiating to minimize any rate hike Tegna demands, or just cave and jack up the price that much more.

Which do you want? Hopefully this is simple enough terms for you.

Oh, I understand, I also understand having the customer in-between this dispute is unacceptable practice in the business world. Hopefully that was put in the simplest terms for you. Just fix it enough is enough.

The only way for the customer not to be in-between would be if Tegna gave away the channel for free. That is certainly not going to happen.

Get the one-time $10 credit. Use that towards a regular antenna, a temporary streaming option, or just accept for the courtesy while you watch something else out of your many other channels.

None of us can "fix it" any more than you. If you think otherwise, go work for them and show how it is done if you can do better.

And just so you know, you opinion and or value has no more or less than anyone else's that post here, you are wrong on many of your rebuttals, so please spare me the pro D/T narratives because I quit listening to you a long time ago. D/T if you're reading these forums, please get this resolved it’s rather ridiculous at this point over a month later. (Just fix it, enough is enough.)

It is not so much pro-DirecTV but I am anti-local affiliates (Tegna in this case) with their ever increasing demands that are a primary factor for raising our bills.

Most of us want this resolved. But I want it at minimal cost. It appears you don't care about cost and are willing to pay anything for a single channel. To each their own.

So you keep responding but don't listen, not very mature. I respect we have different opinions on the matter, but lets at least stop any veiled toxicity at this point and keep it civil.

Yes, I am pulling back the sarcasm I have shown as I don't want to further feed into it.

I stay with my stance. I don't want DirecTV to cave to higher costs. Preferably I would want those that have such a high desire for the channels pay for them instead, but I know that is not how it works. I also acknowledge the reality that it is not possible to avoid customers being influenced by this (in-between the dispute).

Just be prepared this is not the last time for this happening. Tegna did exactly the same about 3 years ago. This has become more common in recent years with all the local affiliate owners. Why should DirecTV and us customers keep paying more and more for channels that are free over the regular airways?

Hopefully in 2- 3 years this vicious cycle becomes a moot point. I was reading D/T was quietly testing national NBC feed to offset loss of Tegna affiliates, maybe that or some other alternative becomes available for D/T to offer their customers the next time this comes up. I am also sure Tegna is getting what they can while they can, and I also know D/T is no angel in this process and my stance is the PAYING customers should never be put in the middle of this garbage. Have a peaceful night and good night.

The FCC has already stopped TV providers from using the network feeds when they allowed the Steller Act to expire a few years ago.  Per FCC rules no TV provider can give you any local channels not in your DMA (Designated Market Area).

DirecTV confirmed to StreamTV Insider that it was "testing some capabilities as we explore alternative delivery options to help offset the rising costs of retransmission consent." (FierceVideo)

Some DirecTV customers were able to watch a national programming feed of NBC in areas where the local affiliate has been unavailable for weeks due to a prolonged dispute with TEGNA, StreamTV Insider can confirm.

The test appears to be a first step toward replacing local broadcast affiliates with national network feeds in order to offset the loss of programming during programming disputes, like the one DirecTV currently

faces with TEGNA. [This is what I read, what do I know.]

This was dated 1-2-2024 and there is more to this article then what I copy n pasted.
