Tegna - Directv dispute

Its now 2024, how much longer will this blackout last? The streaming option is (Edited per community guidelines). If I want to stream all my local stations then why am I paying for Directv?

This is becoming ridiculous! You cant even stream the NBC shows because your service is connected to Directv.

About ready to throw out Directv after 20+ years

It was the FCC that caused this mess in the first place.

Same here. Over 20 years for us. From IL. to AZ. back to IL. then back to AZ. I feel AT&T ruined the good company DirecTv was before the ATT take over. I was close to canceling our DirecTv when ATT,a Liberal, woke company decided which news channels we can watch by canceling OAN . Blaming OAN of course. Which was not the case as the owner of OAN did an interview explaining the true situation. This is the last straw. Screw loyalty. There are too many options out there these days.

I'm glad that OAN is available on the Roku channel & their are channels like Newsmax & The First on DirecTV Stream. I don't watch CNN or MSNBC so I don't care if they are available or not but I do care when I am missing a local sports game. Fortunately I can watch WUSA Channel 9 CBS Tegna Washington DC on Paramount Plus. Tegna doesn't own an NBC or ABC or Fox in the DC television market. Tegna & DirecTV need to come to an agreement as the sports fans are the ones taking it on the chin because of this dispute.

Well nothing required them to renew the carriage agreement with OANN. They chose to let it expire without chance of negotiations. That was their right, but would have been nice if they were open about the reason. Many have their opinions on the "why" bit it was never officially disclosed by AT&T.

That was a completely separate situation from the current one with Tegna. This is just a normal rate dispute, just like about 3 years ago. Tegna wants a higher cost, DirecTV wants to minimize that. Naturally the higher DirecTV's operating costs are, the more will be added to our bills during the annual price adjustment.

I was not insinuating these were in any way a similar situation.I realize that and don't need you to explain that to me thank you  I was merely venting my disapproval with both situations as a long time customer.I'm an older guy and not sure about all the streaming options available. The only reason I stayed with DirecTv after the ATT deal was the MLB package. I thought Direc had that exclusively. I come to find out several years ago MLB allows a one team purchase option, would be great for me as a Cardinal fan.So I called Direc and they verified the MLB single team option, but Direc decided to not offer that making us purchase every team ! After battling health issues the last several years,I have not been checking alternate options as much as I need to do as I am pretty much bed ridden and my TV has become my best friend unfortunately. I'll be 66 in a few weeks and need to get a kid over here to help set me up. LOL. All the viewing options seem confusing to me.I tried downloading a streaming service on my smart TV but I failed. We live in an over 55 community so finding help could be a challenge. I just want my St. Louis Cardinal ball games and my wife's favorite channels along with our local channels. Like DirecTv has always provided.

Wow, new message on my affected FOX affiliate that says we WILL get access to all NFL Playoff games on affected channels while they continue to work on an agreement.   Good news there and a show of good faith by both parties.

Update:  On my affected FOX channel it now says we will have access to affected channels for all NFL playoff games while they continue to negotiate a long-term deal.  This is certainly an olive branch from both parties and avoids the venom both sides were going to receive if the NFL playoffs were blacked out

Interesting. Curious if that is for the days of the playoffs or just the games themselves. Not sure how the latter would work, unless Tegna got a talking-to by the NFL. Hope this works out for all and that negotiations aren't far off from completing.

Either way, guess Tegna's high risk/high reward play of pulling away didn't work out as well as they wanted if they are returning their big leverage point.

I just checked my DirecTV Stream app & it does say that NFL playoffs games are going to be shown. I have Paramount Plus, Peacock, Hulu, Prime Video etc so I am able to watch sports on other streaming services besides DirecTV Stream but for those who only have DirecTV or DirecTV Stream this is good news. Hopefully this dispute will be solved before the Superbowl.

I have all those. None of them were going to have Dallas vs Green Bay on Sunday...

DTV had no say in Tegna returning the games or their feed that they could left on all this time.

Totally agree! This is getting old, old, old, and it's the second time in three years DTV's inability to negotiate a renewal contract has created a local blackout of my NFL team's games. And please, DTV, SPARE me the speech about how "you're fighting for your customers."  You guys are regular freedom fighters, huh? Nonsense: your inability to come to an agreement with Tenga is as much YOUR FAULT as theirs. Meanwhile, me and lots of others are shelling out $150+/monthly and not getting what we originally paid for. In my case, I'm done.

You are paying DTV to deliver channels by satellite so you are getting what you are paying for.
