Channel Contract Announcements for April 21, 2015

Notice Appearing in USA today on April 21, 2015

AT&T's contracts with programmers for the content displayed on U-verse TV service periodically expire, or may be terminated, but are usually re-negotiated or extended with no interruption or change for our U-verse members. Additionally, from time to time it is necessary to change channel line-ups as well as television package contents. The programming changes set forth below may occur as follows:

June 2015:

AT&T's contract with the programmer for the following channels is set to expire. While these channels will continue to be available to U-verse members so long as AT&T has the rights to carry them, if a reasonable agreement cannot be reached with the programmer the programming will no longer be available. AT&T may modify the channel location for the programming by moving them from their current channel location to a channel between 9501 – 9599, and if a reasonable longer term agreement cannot be reached with the programmers, we may lose the rights to carry them (listed in alphabetical order) in or after June 2015: CBS Sports Network (channel 643 and 1643 in HD), Daystar (channel 563), Encore (channel 932 and 1932 in HD), Encore – West (channel 933 and 1933 in HD), Encore Action (channel 938 and 1938 in HD), Encore Black (channel 942 and 1942 in HD), Encore Classic (channel 934 and 1934 in HD), Encore Espanol (channel 943), Encore Family (channel 944), Encore Suspense (channel 936 and 1936 in HD), Encore Westerns (channel 940), FLIX (channel 890), GSN - Game Show Network (channel 173 and 1173 in HD), IndiePlex (channel 914), Jewelry Television (channel 197, 428 and 1428 in HD), MeTV (channels 23 and 136), Multimedios (channel 3065), RetroPlex (channel 916 and 1916 in HD), Showtime (channel 852 and 1852 in HD), Showtime – West (channel 853 and 1853 in HD), Showtime Beyond (channel 860 and 1860 in HD), Showtime Extreme (channel 858 and 1858 in HD), Showtime Extreme – West (channel 859 and 1859 in HD), Showtime Family Zone (channel 862), Showtime Next (channel 864), Showtime Showcase (channel 856 and 1856 in HD), Showtime Showcase – West (channel 857 and 1857 in HD), Showtime Too (channel 854 and 1854 in HD), Showtime Too – West (channel 855 and 1855 in HD), Showtime Women (channel 866 and 1866 in HD), Smithsonian Channel (channel 118 and 1118 in HD), Starz (channel 902 and 1902 in HD), Starz – West (channel 903 and 1903 in HD), Starz Cinema (channel 908), Starz Comedy (channel 910 and 1910 in HD), Starz Edge (channel 904 in 1904 in HD), Starz inBlack (channel 906 and 1906 in HD), Starz Kids & Family (channel 912 and 1912 in HD), Starz Movieplex (channel 909 and 1909 in HD), The Movie Channel (TMC) (channel 882 and 1882 in HD), The Movie Channel (TMC) – West (channel 883 and 1883 in HD), TMC Xtra (channel 884 and 1884 in HD), TMC Xtra – West (channel 885 and 1885 in HD), and Zee TV (channel 3702).

Could we see two more HD channels soon?

Daystar and StarzCinema are both in HD, but those HD feeds aren't carried by U-Verse.

And remember...

Effective May 8th, 2015 ESPN Deportes (channel 3113 and 3313 in HD) will be removed from U400 and U450 in all markets except Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, Chicago, Dallas/Ft. Worth, San Antonio, San Francisco, Harlingen/Brownsville, Fresno, San Diego, Sacramento, El Paso, and Orlando.

(In cities not named above, the only way to watch ESPN Deportes would be to subscribe to Pacquete Espanol. No changes to ESPN Deportes in those cities listed above.)

Who will be the first hysterical first time poster claiming that all U-verse does is get rid of channels, and U-verse intends to get rid of all of the movie and other channels listed?

The only important one that I see is Jewelry Television. It probably the most popular channel on U-verse.

Looks like May and June will be a busy month for the legal team at U-Verse to try and make new deals with all of these networks.

Not as busy as you may think.

Starz/Encore/IndiePlex/RetroPlex are owned by the same people.

TMC/Showtime/CBS Sports Network are all owned by the same people. -- Odd that MTV/VH1 aren't part of the negotiation, but that's a different division.

I believe that leaves Daystar, MeTV, Multimedios, Jewelry TV and ZeeTV as the only remaining national channels.

It seems that the international channels are easy negotiations and I'm sure that AT&T will agree to the terms set forth by the premium channels.

We still have over a month to go until I'd be getting nervous.

It looks like the individual stations listed are all CBS owned & operated (a mix of CBS and CW, apparently; I know KCBS, KPIX, and KOVR are CBS, and KBCW is CW).

Still odd that "big" CBS isn't up for renewal since all these other CBS-owned channels are...maybe that's done entirely on a case-by-case basis with the affiliates?

I guess we'll know more in a couple weeks.

There is nothing w/CBS Network, only with the CBS affiliates, O&O and all the others.  In MI it's the channel 50/62 O&O owned, no connection w/Viacom as of 2005 when Viacom became CBS then CBS spun it off into the 'new' Viacom w/these assets:

Apparently, it was one of the channels I blocked instantly.

Upon getting new equipment, I automatically block shopping channels, religious channels, channels I do not subscribe to and SD duplicates (such as 202 and 602) of HD channels.

All that merging and buying reminds me of AT&T spinning off into baby bells and private companies and everyone merging back into the "new" AT&T.

I had AT&T, then Ohio Bell, then Ameritech (with the catchphrase "Ohio Bell is now Ameritech.") Then, for a while, if you looked closely, you could still see the remnants of the Ameritech logo under the "new AT&T" logos on the trucks.

...and yes, I vaguely remember my neighbors getting Americast cable. I think they had THREE trucks outside at one point...it must have been a tricky install and they just lived in a "regular" house, too...nothing fancy at all.

Same thing here in MI, but Americast was sold to WOW when ATT brought out Uverse.  😉

Been there, done that, ate the sandwich, saw the baseball game - Pacific Telephone (part of Bell) became Pacific Bell in the breakup, then merged into SBC, which in turn got gobbled up by AT&T.  You could tell by the changing name outside of the San Francisco Giants' ballpark.

But don't you mean you went from Bell Telephone to Ohio Bell?  I thought AT&T was just the long-distance portion of Bell before the breakup.

Strictly speaking SBC did not get gobbled up by AT&T. SBC bought AT&T, including the rights to the name and assumed it.

Before the great 1980's breakup, AT&T owned all the Bell Operating companies, Bell Labs and the Long Distance service division.

However, apparently, that didn't include Cininatti Bell, but did include Ohio Bell.

But...AT&T owns a ballpark! They don't have the MLB package! Furious! Rage! Cancel!

Yeah...my area went from "something" to Ohio Bell to Ameritech to AT&T. (Maybe something else in there as well.) And Americast Cable in my area also became WOW.
