TV Japan and/or NHK available? Dropped from Dish Network and Comcast/Xfinity
We're ready to switch to Uverse tv, as the channel listings say a Japan tv package is still available. We're finding out that Dish and Xfinity/Comcast are no longer carrying TV Japan, but, according to the rep I spoke with at Dish, this was NHK's decision to remove themselves, not that of either tv provider. We're hoping Uverse tv is not also affected and their Japanese tv package is still available? Can anyone enlighten us?

TV Japan (3680, 3681) is included in the Japanese package. If it is removed, as with dish and comcrap, it would be the owner's decision. If not it becomes uverse's decision at contract renegotiation time.
NHK World TV (1221, 1379) are not part of the Japanese package but are included with HD the HD fee on U200, U300, U450.

Thanks. Looks like we'll be shopping for a new provider, but at this point, Uverse tv looks like our only option that has the Japan TV channel that includes the news we watch.

I have switched to Direct TV which TV Japan's new provider. Dish still shows "Japanese Package" on their website but they only play old anime all day long.

We are former Dishnetwork customers who switched to DIRECTV in order to get TV Japan. We requested the switch on a Wednesday and DIRECTV had a crew install their antenna on Thursday and we have been watching TV Japan sinc then. Do not believe all you see on the internet, DIRECTV customer service was excellent so there are always two sides to any story.

I switched from Dish to Directv as soon as I heard Dish was no longer going to carry TV Japan. I've been waiting years for TV Japan to go with Directv and am so glad they did so I could switch! Still loving TV Japan!!

We cancelled our Dish subscription on April 4, 2018 because we didn't like the substitute/new TV station for which Dish switched TV Japan. Anyway, we just had the AT&T service person swing by to add TV service to our AT&T phone and internet package. However, it required an installation of a new satellite dish that needed to face Southeast. It wasn't an option, so we had to cancel the service before it was installed.
Best of luck on your decision.

Thanks for all the replies. We're going with Uverse, because we'd rather not have 2 dishes on the roof. Have no idea what it would cost to take the other one down, so we're having to get someone to come in and just put in new equipment for the Uverse service. Direct TV would have been ok for us if we didn't already have a satellite dish on the roof of the house that we can't do anything about.

TV Japan is available on Comcast Xfinity channel 3180 or 330 if you added TV Japan subscription to the Xfinity TV package in the San Francisco Bay Area (I live in Fremont, CA). NHK World is available on Comcast Xfinity channel 817 at no additional cost.

Not sure about TV Japan (don't have that package). But NHK is still there as of this post. It was announced it was up for re-negotiation but either that hasn't happened as yet or they are good for another year or two.

Before you cancel DirecTV, consider this:
If you downgrade to the lowest price package for the remainder of your contract, it *could* be less expensive than the termination fee.
