DIRECTV App Migration
DIRECTV is migrating to a single app!
Starting May 24th, 2022, DIRECTV and DIRECTV STREAM customers will begin to experience a single look to the app downloaded to their compatible smartphone and tablet device(s).
- For existing DIRECTV Satellite customers, migrating to one app makes streaming Live TV and On-Demand easier than ever on their compatible smartphone and tablet device(s).
- For existing DIRECTV STREAM customers, the single app migration WILL NOT have any impact to your viewing experience on your compatible smartphone/tablet, tvOS, and streaming device(s).
Note: The single app migration will occur for iOS first, starting May 24th. Android will start soon after (coming Jun 1st).
Note: DIRECTV on the Go will still be available during migration, but will eventually sunset too.

@ICHYWT thanks for the helpful info. I did see the other day that the DIRECTV STREAM is just named DIRECTV and both satellite and stream credentials are accepted in the app.

I commented on a post earlier today about this and had my comment removed or taken down because I guess what I said wasn't believable! Glad you posted this so now more people will know about it! I also copied and pasted it to someone in the forum so that they knew!
Thanks

The owner of this channel has made it available to watch only on your TV. The old app streams the channels just fine. Any fixes, please?

this new app is terrible. They've eliminated the ability to watch recorded programs from the DVR (unless they are already ON Demand). Also, eliminated certain channels such as local Sports channels. Can't watch live sports with new APP. AWFUL!!

Honestly, if they don’t fix this, it’s time to cancel my service. Directv used to be a great company with a great product. They have ruined that with awful price hikes and now downgrading your mobile device streaming and thinking their paying customers are dumb enough to see this as an “upgrade”. We aren’t buying it directtv, the gig is up.

Spoke to a rep. She said they will restore the dvr access. Still working on App (why they put it out now without it being totally online is beyond me).

As far as I've been able to tell with this "upgraded" app, you can no longer download DVR recordings to take with you. (Along with the other issues mentioned here which is that you cannot watch a DVR recording unless it's available on demand).
Thus, a huge step back. Not sure how any of this is an "upgrade" or helpful.
Fortunately, the older app still works and allows me to download recorded programs. In the spirit of fairness, though, the app is smoother and the PIP on an iPad is really nice.
Now, if the downgraded or missing functionality will be introduced in a later release, this should have been rolled out when equivalent functionality was available.

On the new combined app, will the DirecTV (satellite) credentials be used to block streaming to a TV itself as designed in the old app (naturally allowing DIRECTV STREAM to work on a TV)? I would expect so since DirecTV is a residential (not mobile) service and there have always been concerns about account sharing, plus of course paying for each authorized TV, a different setup than streaming which is up to so many devices at the same time.
This is something I can see the average consumer getting caught by if not clarified.

@Juniper essentially this new app is ONLY a factor for mobile devices like phones and tablets. It does not at all affect TVs or streaming devices. TVs and streaming devices still use the traditional DIRECTV STREAM app.
I actually checked for this yesterday. On my streaming devices, there is only an app called DIRECTV STREAM, no such other app. That being said, the major app upgrade is ONLY effective for phones, tablets, and possibly computers.
Customers with satellite are still restricted from streaming on a television, an app to do so is still unavailable. Hope that clears things up.
