Yes, you have 24 hours to cancel without incurring the EFT/ECF.

they came out on Friday, I was not able to be here (my husband was), I had to pick up kids from school and take one to the ER has she had an injury from basketball practice, I did not get home until late and never got to even look at a tv until today (Sunday), and I just am really unhappy with Direct Tv, surely they give you longer than one day

but it doesn't make sense that the person talking you into Direct Tv tells you that you have 14 days to cancel then AT&T/Direct TV says 24 hours. I think there has to be something we can do, if not the BBB, something

Some AT&T services have a 14 day period but not DTV. Yes you can file a BBB complaint but don't be surprised if it doesn't change anything.

I guess I could cancel and just not pay, they do not have any of my bank information, I know it would go against my credit, but I am 64 and do not need good credit anymore. But we will see. I just think there should be something people could do about it when they are lied to or miss led.

You can file an fcc complaint to try and get out of the contract... I don't think being unhappy with the programming is one of those things to where they would let you walk... I was let out of contract but I had bad hardware and they did everything in there power to fix it. Another situation was they had to re send signals to my boxes and they lost my first years promos. They did try to give em back to me but couldn't. The rep said the best thing to do was to start over as a new customer at that time. Filed another fcc complait explained what was going on and was let go. I am happy with dtv

DirecTV has always had 24 hours upon install to cancel. That did not change upon AT&T acquiring them, even though some AT&T services have 14 days. The difference is that TV you can get quicker feedback on. Cell phone (wireless) and internet can take longer to get proper review.
You cannot start service without having a valid card on file. This is to make sure people pay their bills upon cancellation.
Sorry but at this point if you cancel, then you are obligated to pay the ECF. Not being there and having your husband accepting order as is was your choice. It is valued at $20 for each month remaining, so for example 23 months out of a 24 month agreement would be $460 ECF on top of the final bill.
Age is not an excuse to avoid paying what you owe.

@Juniper I don't have a cc or a debit card on file. Not worth the 5.00 a month off the bill.. though I do pay my bill every month!!!

Not say age is an excuse, but they DO NOT HAVE A VALID CARD ON FILE as I never gave them one and no one else did either. The guy literally came to my home and and honked until some came out, never once did they ask for financial info., yes they did a credit check, but that was all. I was told I would have certain channels that I do not get
