Today

Today at 5:39 pm I received an email saying my rates were going up (again)!  Well....Guess what???

I, therefore, will stop my AT&T mobile service ($350 plus/month), my AT&T internet ($50 plus/month) and DirecTV (over $200/month) and switch to Verizon for mobile service, Dish Network to TV and EPB for internet beginning next week. Furthermore, I will encourage everyone I know to do the same.

Your welcome,

Todd A. Stancil

OK.  Be sure to look up their rate histories, especially after the 1-yr promotions end.

So do you encourage everyone you know to stop driving every time gas prices go up? Lets face it, networks charge the TV providers more each year so all of them have gone up over that time. That is why DirecTV has had a annual price adjustment, similar to other providers.

No matter where you consider going, check their costs after the intro promotion ends. And keep in mind they each have in their Terms of Serivce that channels and prices can change at any time.

Your argument is an irrelevant straw man argument. As a customer of 20 plus years with AT&T, I expect not to continue to be nickeled and dimed to death when I am already spending a ton of money with them monthly. Secondly, it was incredibly presumptuous and insulting of you to assume that I would not or have not done my homework before I leave. I will actually save over $275/month for two years. After that, I will decide what I do then.

So...in an indirect way I will answer your question. I will tell everyone I know if I am being ripped off and can get a better deal elsewhere.

Thank yo for nothing.

The "being nickeled and dimed to death" will not stop because you switch providers. You are jumping to get a intro price and when it ends "will decide what to do then". This will not protect you from rate increases that all providers deal with. If jumping from provider to provider because you cannot handle anything but intro rates is what you must do, so be it. I am just curious what you would do if that no longer works and you must pay the regular cost, or close to it, no matter who you go with.

Discounts are temporary, not something you are entitled to always have. So it is wise to budget for regular cost, reduce service, or do without pay TV all together if it is that much trouble for you.

Well you are welcome for the realistic perspective of how it really works. You may not like how the TV industry is setup, but doesn't mean they are required to keep pricing the way you want it.

@ToddStancil , some folks enjoy playing the "switch providers every two years" game to hunt those sweet promotion deals.

Yep. And they are just one reason why providers reel back in discounts to make up for the loss of investment from these people who cannot accept they no longer get those intro prices.

If more people would adjust their service to match their interests and budgets, instead of begging for discounts, they would have a much easier time with their bills. So many are just addicted to their TV, or claim they are entitled to have service for news and weather, and just cannot grasp the concept it is a luxury entertainment service to make money and is not a charity.
