B Band converter

Do you still need a B Band Converter attached to the HD box?

For an H24, you can't use a BBC if its a Single Wire Multiswitch system, and you need one if you don't.  To find out, go to menu>parental favs & setup>system setup>info & test>more system info.  Under dish type, if you have Slimline 3 (SWM) or Slimline 5 (SWM), then its a Single Wire Multiswitch system.

A quicker check is to press the dash button on the remote.  If it's a SWM system, it will say so.

I have a new H24 receiver, and my satellite setting says Slimline5 with no SWM mentioned.  I get no signal when I check the satellite signal strength when the B Band converter is hooked up, good signal when it is not.  It worked right after DTV activated the receiver w/o the B Band converter, but now I get the dreaded Searching for signal box.  This started right after I configured the remote for my TV.

I've tried it on two satellite feeds in the house, one new one and one old, known working one, with the same result.  The old HR20 DVR downstairs, hooked up to the same dish, is still working fine. I've reset the new box a couple of times, and it goes all the way through the setup with no errors indicated.

I get the SD version of Channels100, 200 etc., but that's all.

Do you have a SWM dish?  Does the H20 HD DVR have BBC modules connected?  If yes, then your H24 needs one, too.

Best to start your own new thread using the "Create New Post" button on the main forum page.  Your problem may very well be different from the original poster's.    With a new thread you can provide more information about your equipment, location, and troubleshooting you've tried so far.  And this forum software makes it difficult to track or respond to folks that add onto someone else's thread.

Problem solved.  The B Band converter was bad.  I finally tried another one, and everything seems to be working now. A big clue, I now realize, was that I had no signal with the bad one hooked up.
