DirecTV to analog home theater

When I connect my smart TV to my home theater receiver with RCA cables, I get no sound, regardless of the audio settings on the TV. And when I try to go right from the DirecTV box to the receiver with a digital/coaxial-to-analog converter, I just get a humming sound. What am I doing wrong? It's a new DirecTV box with 4K capability.

Thanks, guys. I figured it out. For anyone else who runs into this issue, I had to go the DirecTV audio settings and select Standard rather than Dolby.

You'll need to provide more info ....

What brand/model smart TV?

What brand/model home theater receiver?

What model DirecTV box? I'm guessing C61K if it's 4K.

Does your home theater receiver not have HDMI or digital audio inputs? That's the only way you'll get true Dolby Digital surround audio.

Samsung UN55JU6500F TV. Sony DAV DX255 home theater. Receiver doesn't have digital or HDMI inputs. I understand about true surround audio, but I'm not getting ANY audio except for the hum. It worked with the previous DirecTV box no problem.

What DirecTV box do you have now?

What DirecTV box did you have before?

How was the old box connected to your Sony home theater receiver?

It's a 4K Genie Mini with a Genie 2. I don't know what the previous box was. Whatever HD box they were installing in 2014 or 2015. I don't know how it was connected. The installer did it for me. And the installer who installed the new one said I needed a coaxial-to-RCA converter.

The C61K is the only mini that doesn't have the A/V port to use the RCA 10 pin din cables so that is why you need the converter.

Thanks for the update. Your solution makes sense. Your non-digital AV Receiver can't support Dolby digital audio.
