DVR after new GUI update changing channels on it's own

After receiving the new GUI the other day (first appearance Dec 22nd), my DVR is behaving a bit oddly.  I also have a standard HD receiver which appears to be just fine, including streaming from the misbehaving DVR.

The problem is that it occasionally tunes itself to channel 9.  I can either be watching recorded content or simply be viewing another channel.

I haven't started to record when the events occur, but rest assured they are occurring.  I'll start to keep a log.

The only thing that might be different for me is that I'm controlling my DVR with an automation system, and I'm using the USB port in the back to utilize the RS-232 control of the unit.  This worked perfectly before the GUI update for a long time, so I don't think this is the issue.  I also have a a 1Tb hard drive attached to the unit via the eSATA port, but again this has not been an issue in the past.

I've read the other posts, and I'm only making a new thread as it was recommended for the other "me too's" that jumped onto the other mentioned posts.  I've done NOTHING to try and fix the problem yet.

Thoughts?  I'm an AV integrator and I have at least one client with the same problem (except his DVR is tuning to HBO channel 501).

Excuse me, it was the Texasbrit post I referred to, my error.

Thanks.

texasbrit, do you have anything definitive from Directv that I can read?  I'm getting a lot of heat to at least have an answer.  I've already told everyone in my company it's a Directv problem about 100 times, and yet they keep on coming.  It's like a zombie apocalypse.

I need somthing documented.

Thanks in advance.

I also responded with this information in the similar thread at DBSTalk.  You won't get a definitive written response from DirecTV, though.  At least they've acknowledged they're aware of the problem.

I am an integrator and long time DirecTV customer: I am having this same problem and all I see is a pattern of denial and 'post somewhere else' on this from DirecTV

In my own home, I have 4 HR24 DVR's that are changing channel on their own: I have no loose or corroded cables and have spent hours trying to diagnose the problem

markrubin:

As posted in other thread here, DirecTV has owned up to this bug with SHEF IP control in the latest software release and is working on a fix that should come with the next software update.

There are several.  Search on "SHEF".  See for example ....

I have the same problem since the 0x57b upgrade - random switching back to the current live channel during playback. It happens every few minutes. This happens on all my receivers, all of which use RS232 or USB control (no IR).

Here's a workaround that (with limited testing) seems to solve the problem for me:

- go to Settings -> Whole Home -> External Device and set it to Block

- restart the receiver

Of course, that won't help if you are using IP control. The network connection will still be available, but I presume IP control is now disabled.

Perl_Coder, you forget to mention that if you do this, your integration remote controls are rendered useless!

Not true - the rs232 and USB interfaces still work fine for me.

Interesting idea.  I'll give it a shot.

Sorry guys, the problem still remains for me.  It seems it takes a little while to set in again after a restart.

So my "workaround" doesn't help.

Looks like we still all need a SW fix from DTV.

I spoke to some guys over at Directv ISS tech support who were pretty much clueless. They have no idea and actually suggested I call Crestron (which is completely ridiculous). They couldn't (or more likely WOULDN'T) give me the name or phone for anyone else.  Who writes their software anyway?

So to sum up, I got no help from my Directv rep and no help from Directv tech support.

I have to say, I'm pretty disappointed with Directv on this one. Why does this forum even exist if Directv isn't going to participate? I've been a Directv customer for a VERY long time, but it might be time for me to rethink this (and start steering my clients towards Comcast).

Disappointed,

JG

All we know is that DirecTV knows this is a bug, we haven't heard anything yet about a resolution.....

Do we really know that? I mean REALLY? I'll I've actually read is second or even third hand hearsay.

If DIRECTV would just come out say "It has been determined that our newest release of DVR firmware has a bug effecting a small percentage of clients. It will be resolved with a future firmware download in x days".

DIRECTV, please make a statement. I'm not asking for an immediate fix, just for a statement.
