Gemini mini
There is a new "mini" type box on the Directv Website called a Gemini. Seems, hardware wise, to be identical to the Directv Osprey Stream Box. Does Directv Satellite charge $7 per month as an additional receiver fee for the Gemini? What does the UI look like compared to when used with Directv Stream?

DirecTV is service by satellite. The internet has nothing to do with the boxes getting the satellite service. Internet affects On Demand which is optional content.
Genies can use a wireless video bridge (WVB) to connect to any wireless models instead of using the coax. This is a proprietary WiFi network between them that does not go through you internet. The Genie-2 (HS17) is the only model (so far) with a WVB built-in.

OK, Finally, someone with knowledge was able to get my 3 Gemini receivers working!!! A few issues still exist...1. Volume control can go crazy when you hold it too long 2. My family room unit rebooted itself 2 times...Also, a lot of incorrect info is shared by their "dedicated tech support", such as: you no longer need your "SWM" box any longer! Otherwise I'll keep you all posted..
Thanks all for your help and support!

Since there is no SWM box that is further proof. You have to have an HS17 Genie2 to use the Gemini with sat service.

There is no "SWM box", the SWM circuits are in the SWM LNB on the dish arm.

I have one and when I unplugged it, satellite won't work!
By the way anyone look at the resolution settings on this box... Which one should we use?

That could be a power inserter that is need to power the SWM LNB the HS17 has it built in. Most programing is in 1080i and the few that are in 720 will be upscale to 1080i when it is checked. There are a few 1080p PPV movies so you may also check the 1080p but most people don't see any difference between the 2.

Does this "gemini mini" work like a mini version of a standard DirecTV box? Only wondering as im trying to get my parents new smart TV's set up to mirror from their back tv where the box is plugged in at, then it is set up to "mirror" out to the kitchen TV with a RF modulator and converter box. Before upgrading to these new smart TV's, this set up worked on the older flat screens they had but now I can't seem to get it to work, even with the setup still all plugged in the same as before. Any thoughts? I'm just trying to make it so my dad can watch the local news on the kitchen tv as before (all they would ever do is set the channel in the bedroom and it would mirror to the kitchen tv and you had to change the channel in the room - does that make sense?) Do these new smart tv's just not support this type of setup or something?

@slhascall13 No, minis are basically a remote control for the Genie and will not work without one.

Anyone having this problem??? I have the Gemini Remote set to turn on my Yamaha RXA-1040 receiver on and off with the TV...When I turn power on it goes to the correct input (AV2), and within 5 seconds it goes to another weird input so I have to manually change the receiver. Amy thoughts???

I am new to Directvstream having just signed up last summer. I bought a box off eBay (C71KW-400) and it has been working fine. I wanted to put a TV in another room so I bought another box off of eBay only this time the box had someone else's account on it and I learned through this forum that these boxes cannot be reassigned so I returned that unit.
Based on the info on this forum, I bought a remanufactured box directly from Directvstream from within my account for $49.95. I got the box last week.
Problem is, I cannot get this reman box to work. To me, it looks like they shipped me one of these Genie units that you guys are discussing here and the Genie appears to require a separate receiver or master client to work. I thought I was getting another stand alone box like the one I already have. It looks just like my other one and the part numbers are the same (C71KW-400). The remotes are identical. The box on the new one has PN R0075 and my old one has 60075 so I guess the R stands for remanufactured.
What is happening is I never get to the sign in point - If I connect it hard wired ethernet it freezes with a message to turn on my receiver. If I connect it wifi then it tells me it is looking for a BRIDGE and then tells me to go into my client and add the device. I have turned it off and on numerous times and even did a hard reset (held red button down for 35+ seconds). It always returns and stalls at the same screen waiting for some communication from another device. I thought it was asking for me to set something in my original box but I looked under settings and there is nothing there. The words GENIE and GEMINI are shown on the screens. I never saw these words with my original box setup.
Clearly, something isn't right here. My original box took me all of 10 minutes to setup and I have beed futzing with this one for hours. Did they just ship me the wrong box or a box that is programed wrong or are the $49.95 remanufactured units supposed to be used with another device? There is nothing on the website about this - it just lists a new unit for $120 and a reman one for $49.95.
I am still within the 14 day return period. I can ship this one back and order another one and see if the 2nd one does the same thing or I can roll the dice with another eBay purchase.
Any help is appreciated!

@wilcojunohotel This is the DTV sat forum, DTV streaming has its own forum. There are 2 firmware versions of the Gemini, one for DTV sat and the other is for Streaming, you got the sat version.

Thanks @shannon02 That is a perfect explanation for what I am seeing.
Makes me wonder why they shipped me a satellite box when my account is a Directv Streaming account. I think I will just return it and order another one in a few weeks. Hopefully it is just a glitch in their inventory or someone pulled from the wrong bin.
This is a low priority for me since I only want the box to watch the Braves games when I sit in my sunroom.

You need to order the streaming version from the DTV streaming website. DTV sat service and DTV streaming are two separate services.
