Is leaving the connections exposed normal in installation?

I just had a re-install done and the tech buried most of the cable..but left the connections sticking out of the ground. Is this a normal installation? I called Directv and they said they aren't even required to bury the cable at all.

so, where do these cables go to?  It looks like there are some white cables to where?  The green wire?  From the picture, it looks like the connector are only a few inches above ground, they should been wrapped in weather tape. Why are they spliced there?

Weather Tape! You are kidding right?  This is NOT the way this should be done at all. There should be no splices at all from the dish to the ground block/splitter/multiswitch (except maybe at the dish). Techs are not required to bury cable it is a charge of $1 per foot to have it buried BUT I bet if you call and complain to a supervisor this would get fixed and buried for no charge.  If you paid for a pole mount then 20ft of cable should be buried for the cost of the pole which is usually $75 (there is no charge for a pole if it is HD dish or if it was required by no fault of your own like a line of sight issue)

Those look like your old four line legacy stuff. The tech might have done your new system on a SWM one line system and just left the old lines there from before. Does the dish have one line coming off of it or four?

It was a re-installation. There was no charge. A tech came out last Friday to add my second line for the tuner on my self install dvr. He said the prior install which was done 3 years ago for HD was shoddy. Se it was recheduled for Sunday. A different tech came Sunday and did this. He did bury about 10-15 feet of cable from the pole to the picture I took.

The green wire I Assume is the ground wire. The white cables go to the house to the second tuner of my DVR. He didnt even tack up the cable along the roof or carport. He left the slack and said we'd have to do it because the car port was cluttered. Which I can deal with. And yes they are basically laying on the ground. I have no idea why they are spliced there.

The bottom line is, this is a very sloppy and unprofessanal install.  Needs to be completely redone

I called Directv and I was told that is standard to leave the connections like that. Perhaps I should call again and escalate the call.

according to our RDo(Regional Mngr)he wants us to custom charge for all HD pole mounts unless it is a NLOS issue. When we asked what happens if customer calls DTV will tech get in trouble?RDO said he would back up the techs.Guess what?A tech got fired for custom charging an HD pole mount because the customer complained directly to DTV.So watch your backs out there boys.

cchauncey74----Bottom line is, call DTV ask for escalations, explain that the install left spliced cable coming out of the ground and is a danger.  Request that they send to area manager for a look see and to get this fixed

also, take a couple of better pictures of these cables and send then to installersupport@directv.com.  Be sure and include all your contact information.

RDO so you are O&O? Is the initials of your RDO LB? No matter he told you wrong info and you should not listen to it.
