Moving a Mini Genie box from one room to another

I just had a tech come out to move my Mini Genie box from one room to another. He told me it would be a 3-4 hour job because he had to replace all of the cable. I asked why, because I'm not having any issues. He said that they do not use white cable, they only use black, and that's policy. I canceled. Has anyone else had this issue?

I know DIRECTV only uses black RG6 cable both outside and inside. However, a tech shouldn’t have to do a 3-4 hour job because of the color of the cable. If your service works fine, there’s no reason to do this.

What is the model of the Genie Mini, is it being moved to another room with DIRECTV service, and is there any DIRECTV cable present in the room where you plan to put the receiver?

DirecTV techs do not usually carry white cable. I don't know if this required cable to be run outside but white cable is not good for outside because it tends to degrade from UV faster.  However 3 t 4 hours does seem like a long time. A better option might be to get a wireless Mini Genie, no cable or drilling required. Did he mention anything about that?

You had a tech that does not understand cables. There's no reason to replace a cable just because the directv manual tells you to run a different cable, this only applies to a new installation.  If the existing cable is RG6 you can just move the mini-genie provided the existing cable is actually connected to a splitter somewhere.

Good4u is correct to suggest a wireless genie client but you would have to pay for that.
