Recording Issues

Say I want to record something that doesn't start for three hours, I bring up the guide and scroll to the right and locate that show. I press the record button and my DVR starts record immediately. I've called support and they said its a known issue and basically told me they have no idea what to do. They also said that they will send it on over to their engineers. This is extremely frustrating that I can't record anything without the entire channel recording. Any help would be appreciated.
