Will unplugging my Directv box from my tv when I want to watch a DVD/Blu-ray disc mess up my Directv connection?

I have a small connector box for Directv plugged into my bedroom tv. This allows me to watch something different on Directv than what my mom is watching in the living room on the tv in there, where the main Directv box is at.

The tv in my bedroom only has one connection spot for an HDMI cable to go into. That is how my Directv box in my bedroom is currently connected to the tv in my bedroom.

I got a new DVD/Blu-Ray player for Christmas 2019 and the only way it can connect to the tv in my bedroom is by HDMI cable.

So, I am just wondering if unhooking my Directv box from my tv when I want to watch a DVD on my new DVD/Blu-Ray player on the tv in my bedroom will mess up my Directv connection or will the Directv connect back up to my tv just fine when I reconnect it to my tv once I am finished with watching that DVD on my DVD/Blu-Ray player?

What you need is an HDMI switch. No unplugging it will not harm it but it will take a few minutes to reboot.

What exactly is this switch and where can one be found? My situation is basically that my current tv only has one HDMI connection port spot on it and I have two devices that both require HDMI connection port spots for both of them to work on my tv--my new DVD/Blu-Ray player and the Directv connection box.

Get a powered HDMI switch, preferable one that supports at minimum HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2.

A switch is simply a box that plugs into your TV that has multiple HDMI ports of itself. This allows you to switch between HDMI devices without having to keep swapping plugs, waiting on reboot and setup.

Of course it is best to have devices plugged directly into a TV. But this allows you some freedom if you have more devices (DirecTV, DVD player, game console, etc.) than you have HDMI ports, especially since your TV only has 1.
