Att u-verse box is hot

My in-laws Att u-verse arris box is super hot along the bottom. The tv hasn’t been on for over 14 hours. Is this normal? Do they need a replacement?

Hi There @Myca77,

Such a good son/ daughter-in-law to help your in-laws with their equipment. Let us help you out.

Normally it is not normal for a router or a cable box to overheat like that. Let us see why it could be doing that.

1.) Is there anything surrounding the piece of equipment that could block the normal air flow around the equipment?

2.) Is it plugged into a surge protector with any other equipment?

3.) Is the equipment dusty or dirty?

When something overheats, a good rule of thumb is to unplug the equipment to let it cool down.

Try that. If it starts to overheat again, you can get a replacement by ordering it from the MyAT&T app.

If there is anything else that we can do, please reach back out.

I got my U-verse box a few years ago.  It has been really hot since I got it.  I stand it up so it gets good ventilation.  I have Internet and telephone only, but it is still cooking.  Probably not great for the electronics.  Is this thing a transformer?  Is it hot from bad design?

The AT&T Gateways and TV Receivers do produce heat and need adequate ventilation.
