Proper receiver for 3D

I first decided to try 3D back in September. One thing I found out is that the jump is very expensive. I had a 2008 model Mitsubishi 73" DLP. I started out by buying the adapter kit and dlink glasses. I then found out that in order to use HDMI passthrough you had to have a receiver with HDMI 1.4. So I go out and buy a Pioneer receiver with 1.4 HDMI, $580. I then started experiencing all the frustration that many other people had. When you turn to a 3D channel you didn't know what you would get. I called direct tv, Mitsubishi, Pioneer and checked out several forums. Finally direct tv sent out a tech to check out my problem.

Long story short, when we bypassed the receiver it started switching correctly. Another tech told him that you had to have high speed HDMI cables. I went out and bought some sony 10.2 gig HDMI cables. It looked like it solved the problem. Then I noticed that it still had problems switching on 3D from certain channels. I called Best Buy about returning the receiver. The rep told me that 10.2 gig wasn't fast enough for 3D. He talked me into buying Monster cables rated at 15.8 gig. No change. Last night I went on cnet.com to see how they rated receivers. I found out thar Pioneer receivers didn't use all the capabilities of HDMI which got me wondering. I noticed that the Denon and Yamaha receivers did. Today, I went to Best Buy and returned the Pioneer receiver and bought a Denon AVR-791. Now I have total success.3d works exactly like it's supposed to. The whole time I was blaming direct tv and it wasn't their fault. I did keep the Monster HDMI cables because they do indeed give a much better picture and sound quality . Also I returned the dlink glasses and bought the emitter glasses they are more comfortable and work better. I hope this helps.

That's good info on the receivers.

The Monster cables are not better than other manufacturer's of the same rating. It's impossible for any HDMI cable to provide a higher quality than any other. The signal is digital. It either works fine or shows dropped pixels to no picture. The high speed cables at http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10240 are just as good. See http://www.monoprice.com/home/home.asp?pn=help&idx=2 for HDMI info.

I'm diving into 3D also; will receive a Mitsubishi WD-82738 tomorrow; just ordered the LG BX580 3D Blu-Ray player; ordered 4 HDMI v1.4 cables yesterday; ordered the Optoma ZD101 D Link glasses; luckily, already have the Denon AVR-791 that I got just 3 months ago.  Hopefully, my experience will be less painful that yours!

There's nothing like a really big screen. Be sure to see http://www.mitsubishi-tv.com/3Dupgrade.html

You may need http://www.mitsubishi-tv.com/accessories/3DA1 also but check with Mitsubishi if the software upgrade is enough.

What Pioneer receiver were you using that didn't work??  I just bought a Pioneer 3D Receiver and plan on hooking it up to my Sony KDL-46HX800 and mine cost about the same as yours did.  Any info on that?

It was a pioneer vsx 1020. now I'm having problems with the denon receiver. The screen keeps going blank when watching a 3d dvd or directv. They sure came up short on the technology.
