fraud
received a call supposedly form at&t offering 50% off my direct tv account. return # 866 514 1853.
they did not know my monthly bill amount. they offered to give me 50% off for 2 years, no contract, all i have to do is give them 6 months in advance. around $600. said to buy ebay gift cards, as ebay is paying for the discount. ( now why would they do that???)
when i balked at the idea of gift cards my man hung up.
i can't prove it but this must be a scam deal.

Well known scam going on a couple years now.
DirecTV does not call to offer a discount on your service. You call them to discuss your options. And 50% off is a fantasy.

I was scammed a couple of years ago for $600.00! They called me from Direct TV's number which made me think it really was Direct TV and offered me 50% discount for a year plus premium channels, etc. I, like an (Edited per community guidelines), fell for their scheme and went out and bought a $300 gift card which was supposed to be an upfront payment for the discount and extras I would receive. A day later, they called me and said that the card was damaged and I would be refunded the money for that, but that I needed to get another gift card right away so that I would not lose out on promotion. I went out and bought another $300 gift card and called them at the number they gave me and gave them the gift card info. Two days later, when I didn't see any premium channels on my tv, like they said, I called Direct TV. I told them what had happened and they said they don't ask customers for payment for any type of service, discounts or otherwise. I reported it to the police, but I'm my situation was not considered important enough for them to investigate. It is now two years later and I still get calls almost every day offering me some type of deal. They call from a ton of different numbers - I don't know how they can still continue to try and get me to even listen to them for one second. I never take calls from unknown numbers, unless I'm expecting calls from a particular business or agency. They do not tire of trying to find innocent victims who will fall for their lying and deceitful schemes. I don't change my number because I've had it for so long and don't want to go through the hassle of alerting all my contacts. But I'm so disgusted by their constant, never ending barrage of calls. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me! (Actually, they did fool me twice - but never again)!

Once a phone is answered, they know there is a live one. So they mass contact numbers and then when they find one who picks up, the calls increase. They hope that enough bombardment and you will slip up and fall for one, as that is all it takes.
They only made it look like they called from DirecTV's number. The Caller ID info was spoofed which has been too easy to do. There are new regulations in place to help, but many of these come from out of country so are free from such stipulations and law enforcement.

I actually just got the same call from 602-932-9428, offering half off DirectTV. Total scam artists.

I've just received the same call (half price off DirectTV) from 602-932-9428. It was an obvious scam.

I received my first such call today on my mobile number which isn’t even associated with my Directv account. They left a voice message and I can see why people fall for it. It sounded very legitimate.

Yes, they sound very legitimate. That's how they were able to get me the first time I took their call two years ago. They sound very professional and convincing and use just the right words to get you to think they are legitimate. I keep a log of the numbers that call with the same message and I have amassed over a hundred numbers! I have never taken a call from them again after they scammed me, but they continue to call hoping that one day I may answer. I will never answer or return the call to the numbers they leave, but it's interesting that there isn't anything a citizen of this country can do to get an investigation going to pinpoint who these people are. But, as one member said, these people are not even in this country, so it will be difficult to find and prosecute these criminals. I wish there was a way that I could block them from ever calling me again, but I don't have a clue as to what I can do to stop receiving calls from these scammers. But for sure, I never take their calls. They always have to leave a message and then after i hear it, I block the number. Then they just use a different number. How can they get access to so many different phone numbers to use is beyond my comprehension.

Hey @Minnie7575 Thank you for bring this to our attention.
You can prevent unwanted calls by using Digital Phone call protect which is a feature for AT&T Phone Services or block unwanted calls by creating a list up to 100 numbers to block. Set up your list online or simply press *61 after your most recent unwanted incoming call to :
- Turn on call blocking.
- Add that number to your blocked list.
On the other hand, you can also place your number on the Do Not Call list at DoNotCall.gov.
In case, you have another phone carrier, you can report spam and fraud text or phone numbers to us or others fraud attempts that occur by emails .

I get those fraud calls from fake AT&T scammers a lot - at least twice per week. Just start stringing them along and give fake information. Send them chasing their tails. Or, flush the toilet in their ears a couple times - or maybe a LOUD HORN into the phone will do it.

I am concerned about a phone call from 855-411-8051 on November 3, 2021 approximately 5:00 p.m.
Individual said we could get Directv at 50% off bill for 2 years. It was associated with EBAY. We would get 2 years at $175 or half of our regular Directv bill.
We were directed to go get $1050 EBAY cards and call the Billing Department at 833-484-2640. I had 24 hours to do this. With all of the scams going on, a RED FLAG went up.
Since we have not received any printed literature indicating there was a 50% off option. I have kept the phone numbers received calls from.
When speaking with the representative name-Jason, I had to tell him that I would not be doing anything until I researched more. He got really PUSHY and I basically told him to back off. Immediately his tone changed.
Like I said I do not know if it is legit or not. I just thought about that it could be anyone's phone number and they were simply waiting for the EBAY money transfer to their account. I would like to know if Directv does have a 50% off bill??????
NOTE: This is the text message I received at 7:37 pm, on November 3, 2021
Then I receive a threating text message that indicates I have 1 hour to take care of or my account will be charged $1000 penalty.
Sir-Mam, We regret inform you that your services will be deactivated in next hour and $1000 penalty charges will be imposed on your account, as your payment for the Promotion is still pending for which you signed up. Kindly call the billing department at 1-833-484-2640 to resolve the issue. Regards, AT and T (this was text message received 7:37 pm on Nov 3, 2021
I have attempted to call Directv this morning numerous times to check. No one is answering the phones. Finally got through to Directv and they assured me this is not legit.
Block all calls associated with those numbers.

I got a call last night from "ATT DIRECTV" who told me that they were changing the satellites and that I wouldn't be able to watch television after midnight unless we reprogrammed my receivers.
I confirmed with him that the software update they would make to my receivers would move the satellite dish so it could pick up the new satellites.
Then he asked me how many receivers I had. When I gave him a number, he could magically then see that number of receivers on my account split between 1 genie and the remainder clients.
I decided I had wasted enough of my time with him and let him off the hook shortly thereafter.

Hi @wbooth2823
We want to help and provide you the most accurate information about our services and the promotions that we currently have. At the moment, we are not offering a deal with eBay and of course, your account won't be disconnected unless you request to process this change to your service.
In this case, you can add to the Do Not Call Registry (https://direc.tv/2ZW3SuZ) your phone number and the ones associated with the account to prevent this type of situations.
Feel free to reach us back in case that you need further assistance. We're here for you.
