Prices are to high
I'm paying $155 a month for direct tv, it was not this high until ATT bought it out. I've had my service for 5 years, it's sad that ATT has deals for only new customers, what about your long term customers? You no longer appreciate out business obviously!

The issue is that with a financial review it was determined that too many customers were floating on discounts that were not sustainable. So they have reeled in discounts in general to stop customers from hemoraging the bottom line. So business is appreciated, but not when they are losing money on a customer.
In the end, discounts are a temporary perk, never intended to permanent. If the bill is too high, then adjust your services so that it is within budget. Certainly ask about discounts, but be prepared to pay what the service actual costs. If you cannot afford it without discounts, then you cannot afford it.

or swap providers every 2-3 years
and hope you can keep getting a discount
is it worth that hassle?

DTVs intro offers were there long before AT&T bought them.
