DirecTV DVR recorded the wrong channel
My DVR recorded tonight's Bachelorette episode on a local ABC channel that I don't receive and not my local channel. The season has been set for several seasons, and it has recorded correctly up to this point. It looks like it was lined up to record it incorrectly next week as well.
Why did this happen, and can it get fixed?

DNS channels are versions of the main networks that are broadcast for people with RV accounts because they can't get regular locals. If you don't qualify for DNS the DVR should not try to record them. Something is going wrong so that the DVR thinks they are regular locals so the DVR records from the east coast DNS instead of west coast locals.

DNS channels are the feeds that the networks use to provide programming to their local affiliates using their own sats. The FCC passed an act to allow DTV and all other providers to use them if they didn't have a contract with the local channels to rebroadcast them but last year it wasn't renewed so nobody can use them without a new contract with the networks.

Shannon02 - actually they are not. The DNS channels have nothing to do with the networks own feeds. The west coast DNS channels are just a remapping of the LA network locals to a different set of channel numbers. The east coast DNS channels are the New York network locals on a different set of channel numbers. If I have an RV account, I see either the LA or New York locals. The big difference between the LA and NY networks (DNS channels) and other locals are that they are on national beams receivable on an RV account anywhere in the US whereas other cities locals are on spotbeams pointed at individual cities.

Since I don’t understand all of the jargon and the abbreviations, this did not help that much for me, although I sincerely appreciate the effort. I just cannot understand how they can schedule a recording on a channel that I am not even allowed to have!

We’re having the same issue. ABC shows to be exact. It records the ABC HD channel that we don’t have. We have deleted the recording and searched for it again to record it. It doesn’t work. We’re on the phone with directv now and they’re not understanding the issue.

DTV is shutting down the MPEG2 SD channels so it sounds like you have an SD only system that needs to be swapped out to HD MPEG4 system for free.
