HR24 + HR22 Whole Home setup w/Netgear adapters
I have an HR24 + HR22 set up for Whole Home. I originally had 2 HR22's, each box had a Netgear wireless adapter attached to connect them to my home network, I had one of the HR22's replaced with an HR24.
The installer installed Whole Home and I'm still using both Netgear adapters. Nothing from DirecTV (i.e. DECA box) is attached directly to my router via an ethernet cable. I keep seeing on these threads that a DECA box should be connected directly to my router, but my setup appears to be completely wireless. Everything seems to be working ok...Whole Home, VOD, etc. ...except when playing a program on the HR24 that was recorded on the HR22 the video is choppy (buffers) at times. When playing a program on the HR22 that was recorded on the HR24 the playback is smooth all the way through. What could be causing this?

shame on the installer. call DirecTv to get this fix ASAP! there should be nothing connected to any of the receivers with the exception of a DECA receiver behind the HR22. and the internet connection next to your router. is known that wireless networking is not compatible with WHDVR.

When the installer saw that I had my own wireless adapters he said "oh, well then you don't need any of these (holding up a DECA unit (white box))".
I'll try to explain my setup:
All of the feeds/cables coming from the dish come into my house behind my TV in the living room...the SWM splitter is there. I have a DECABB adapter connected to the splitter and to my HR24, my Netgear WNCE2001 is connected to the BB adapter.
The SWM power inserter is connected at the box (HR22) in my bedroom. I have a Linksys WGA600N attached directly to the HR22.
There is nothing (from DirecTV) attached directly to my router (with an ethernet cable).
I must say...it "almost" works perfectly, the picture is beautiful no matter which box I'm playing a recorded show from...except for that occasional buffering when playing a show from the HR22 to the HR24. I was thinking maybe it's because the HR22 is a much slower box than the HR24...maybe the HR22 can't serve it up as fast as the HR24 wants it?? Maybe the SWM Power Inserter should be connected to the HR24?? (Just throwin' stuff out for consideration)
Tell me, are the recorded shows being served to the "other box" via my wireless bandwidth...or is it all going through the coax wiring?

It's not working because that's not a supported a network configuration for Whole Home DVR service. Wireless is totally unacceptable for WHDVR. Call DirecTV back and get another installer out to properly connect and configure the coax-based DECA networking. Then it will work fine.

The reason you're getting bad playback is that the HR22 is routing the programming via the WGA 600N through the router and your Whole Home system isn't working via the DECA system as it should. The wireless adapters should be removed and a Ethernet cable should be run from the BB adapter to your router.

That would be the ultimate jury rigged system. The BB adapter is okay as is and it will network all of your HD boxes in that one connection. The Whole Home system is really quite simple to configuire but it is very fussy that it be done just right, there aren't any "yeah but" how about this or that's available.

Don't waste your time. Stick with a supported DECA configuration.

No. With the DECA coax-based WHDVR networking, you use the Cinema Connection Kit to "bridge" the coax network to your home ethernet network. That provides internet and home network access for ALL of the DVRs/Receivers on your WHDVR network. The CCK is installed by the DirecTV tech near your home network router, so no wireless link is needed. If that's not possible, then a Wireless version of the CCK is available for self-installation.

Ok, I've got it working flawlessly on both ends. Here it is:
4 way green splitter behind the TV in the living room with the HR24, with the following connections:
- DECA/BB (black box) coaxed to the splitter with my Netgear WNCE2001 wireless adapter going into the DECA/BB's ethernet port (instead of physically running a cat5 all the way to the router itself).
- HR24 coaxed to the splitter
- coax from the splitter that goes to the bedroom (existing coax running under the house to the bedroom from previous installation)
- 4th output unused/terminated.
In the bedroom (HR22) - two way green splitter with the following connections:
- coax input to the splitter from the cable coming from the splitter in the living room.
- power passing leg connected to power inserter. (signal to IRD connection is not used/terminated)
- coax going from the other leg of the splitter as input to white DECA box; other end of DECA coaxed to the HR22; DECA's cat5 going to HR22 top ethernet port.
DONE!
Flawless playback of recorded shows in both directions (no skipping or buffering) ...all without a physical cat5 connection running to my router.

The system you describe is in fact a supported configuration, good work. The shared programming is now flowing through the coax and has no interaction with your router.

I'm getting frequent pixelation on the DVR boxes (all of my boxes are DVRs) with live shows. It's not the weather or my satellite alignment(which was checked by an installer when my whole home was installed a week ago). I also have a plain old set of rabbit ears connected to one of the inputs on my TV, there is no pixelation when watching the exact same channel. The pixelation only occurs on the DVRs and only started since whole home was installed (see my configuration above).
I've checked on these forums and others and this seems to be an issue that others have encountered as well.
Question, is it true that a DVR that is connected to the power passing leg of a green splitter may cause pixelation (I've seen this said elsewhere). I noticed that in my living room the installer has a connection going to the power passing port (it's not for the power inserter)...that connection/cable is going under my house...I assume it's going to my bedroom (again, see my configuration above).
As a test, I was going to swap that connection from the power passing leg to a non power leg, but when I disconnected that connection then every box (I also have a third box now) got a message saying that it couldn't connect to the satellite...putting that connection on a non power leg did not restore the satellite connection. Now I'm puzzled. If that cable is going to the bedroom, where the power inserter is, would it cause all boxes to lose the ability to talk to the satellite if disconnected...or just the bedroom?
Any thoughts? (I'd rather not start a new thread as this is already a continuation of a thread that I started for my configuration). Thanks.

since the PI is in your bedroom that cable is carrying the power to the dish, needing a power path to deliver the power to the dish. this is why you must connect that cable to avower passing port on the splitter in the LR.
