Internet Connection

Hello, 

I have two HR22 receivers in my home that have the whole home viewing feature operational. I am able to access interactive features most of the time. Sometimes I get the message that there is no internet available? When I go to to the Network setup up I ALWAYS am told I am not connected to the internet and get the code 86-688 and I am asked if I would like to get connected so I try and immediately get the message a problem was detected. On this screen my IP and subnet are listed but no dns and gateway are listed. I called customer   service and after a few minutes of troubleshooting they gave up and asked that I call my isp. All of my computers, phones and Ipads are connected and working fine. 

The reason that I noticed the lack of internet connection was while trying to set up the IPAD app for controlling my receivers. The ipad can't find any receivers. I think I may be stuck unless someone can help me. Thanks  Ken

you  need the internet connection kit to connect for HR22's to the internet.  call DTV and ask that they return to install this,  since it was supposed to be installed when you got the WHDVR upgrade.

Tell us more about your internet service ....

  • Internet service provider?
  • How are the DVRs connected to your home network for whole home sharing?
  • How are the DVRs connected to your home network for internet access?
  • Does this problem happen on both DVRs?
  • Who installed your WHDVR setup? When?

thanks guys it seems I need a cinema connection kit. Would have been nice to know before spending 2 hrs on the phone.

I'm assuming you got this all figured out by now... I hope so at least. I'm trying to connect my ipad2 up to the direct tv and they told me the same thing that I needed to get a kit of some sort but told me it has to connect to a router? I have a tmobile mifi a little handheld wifi so I can have Internet service everywhere.... Any idea how that might work? Is yours connecting to a router? Routers are cheap don't mind going to get one but hope I don't have to. Thanks for the help! Greatly appreciate it!
